Default Ever find a Steelbook where you wouldn't expect it?

I'm just wondering. Does anyone ever find, or even look, for Steels in odd places on the secondary market. Like garage sales, craigslist, places that sell used movies...that kind of thing? I'm wondering if anyone has ever found a great deal on a steel somewhere other then the original store it came from or even unexpectedly at the original store after it was supposed to be sold out.

Im really not sure if anythings out there, we don't really have lot of places here that deal in used movies and such. Also I would think that most people that get a steel, at least up until recently, knows its a collectible thing ans sought it out and wouldn't just trade it or sell it to some used movie shop, but you never know.

I was able to get a near-mint copy of the Resident Evil: Afterlife steelbook at my local Buyback$ for $11.99 + tax. This was back when they the RE steels first started popping up in Walmart bins. Damn thing was going for at least $40 (used!) on Amazon at the time (and is still averaging the high $20 range).

The only Steelbook I found in this fashion was a "Terminator 3" steelie in a German flea market. It must have been 18 euros or so; not really a fantastic deal or anything, but I was inclined to grab it all the same. If I recall correctly, it has lossless audio, so I considered it an upgrade from the US copy I had.

I got Salt and 2 of the James Bond releases from a used store for $15 each. I also found Resident Evil Afterlife for $12, but it was beat up at the bottom.

eh..no problem, I was thinking kinda the used market, but we could also go with the original store too. I guess I just kinda figured the likelyhood of finding it at the original store would be slim. especially now with online inventories, though I wonder how accurate those are sometimes.

Anyone live near Norwich? In the market stalls in the town centre, there is a guy who has a fair few Steels on sale. I saw 2 x Scott Pilgrim UK, 2 x Kick Ass UK and loads of others. Got talking to him about them and he said he had over 200 steels. They are for sale at top end prices, so no bargains unfortunately :/

Worth a look though if you can find him.

I just started too. I don't think there are many places around here that sell used movies aside from say FYE and I don't think theyre that good, plus seriously their used prices for movies are more then new at other places in some cases. We do have a good bit of flea markets though.

Im Colorado there was a place called Media Play, maybe I think, that sold TONs of used stuff. It was in an old compusa or circuit city and just huge and full of used movies, games and music. Really cool place.

This has happened to me twice, although I am not sure I can completely call it "where you wouldn't expect it", because I actively search in these channels. I am in Sales, and travel a fair bit, affording me the opportunity to seek out SteelBooks in little strip malls, Mom and Pop video stores, etc.

- Iron Man - Craigslist, Vancouver - about a year ago ($40)
- Indiana Jones KCS - Mom and Pop Video Store, Alberta - about 2 years ago ($20)

Well I guess my point was to try and see if it would be worth my time to seek out these places and look. Im in the states. What I would think though is up until recently, to get a steelbook here you had to import it. Your not importing steels if you don't know what your looking for and your not going to trade them in at a used shop usually.

Back in my DVD buying days I found Planet Terror and Death Proof at FYE. I have found other DVD steelbooks at pawn shops including I Am Legend, Dog Soldiers, Dune, and a Canadian Ong Bak.

On blu ray, I found the Target exclusive Iron Man 2 on the shelf at my local Hastings. I have found a few at pawn shops, including Green Lantern, and have found other collectible packages at pawn shops as well, including the Dark Knight and Iron Man masks, the Dark Knight batpod, and the Target Star trek Enterprise.
