Default A Scanner Darkly

I was very disappointed in this movie and i did not like it at all. Its confusing, too bored to watch rest of the movie. I did not like the cartoonish look, i thought it probably would be better if they didnt add cartoonish look. Anyone on same BOAT or you liked it? Explain why?

sucks!

I always look at that movie and think about picking it up as a blind buy. It was on the $10 off promotion and I almost got it. Why exactly don't you care for the movie?

The movie is not for everyone but it has it's moments. It's slow and complex without a big payoff but it's entertaining.

It may have been a great movie, but I hate the effect they used over the actors.
Seriously was a huge turn off, and made it unwatchable.

This is a 'small' movie. It is an art house film with the acting, directing and writing pedigrees of a major blockbuster. It's a contemplative and methodical journey that is deliberately vague. Not your standard Hollywood fare, but that can be a good thing.

hey let us not all forget that this was a Phillip K. Dick Novel before it was a film. I can think of another film Blade Runner. I agree the effect used can get annoying but I understand why they did it. Its annoying to me because its the same as the charles scwabb commercials.

the movie is really intricate and strange. I can see why a lot of people wouldnt like it. No offenses but usually more intellectual people enjoy it because theres no blind stupid shooting in it. And I loved the way they melded real life and cartoon. And the PQ on my 720p TV was AMAZING, can't imagine a 1080. If you can get it for $20 or less its a good one to have in your collection

The payoff is pretty great, he is sent to Farming Prison and finds out they are harvesting Substance D.

I really like the film but ever since I read the book, the film has lost it's power it's way more detailed and ridiculous amounts of important details was cut.

I think I actually prefer the film. I love most of Philip K Dick's work but I never really got on with A Scanner Darkly.

For those still looking to to acquire the version with the additional special feature, the wbshop still has 2 in-stock listings for this bd, classified on their site as items 1000000035 and 1000152002. Item 1000000035 lists under its details tab the inclusion of the "One Summer in Austin" doc, while the other item does not.

The older release w/the extra feature:

The newer one without:

Wonder if that's where the orphan gears ended up.
