Default New Blu Ray Shelf With Mounted TV

To start off I must thank sk33tr for his help on how he built his and the materials he used for his as well.

Now here is mine, It should hold around 600 to 700 Blu Rays and is finished off in glossy black paint from Lowe's. The height for each shelf is 8.5" and 1x6 pieces of wood. The back piece is a nice smooth piece of plywood but I forget the exact kind I used. As you can see all screws are hidden from view as well.

The TV is my older 42" sharp and I mounted that on the wall right above the shelf and all components are hidden inside a closet on other side of the room.

Ignore the mess of screws and the blu ray player on the floor as it was for testing only. Also the TV was not centered perfect in the pic either but it is now.

I will be setting up a smaller unit for another room that will hold video games and be slightly deeper but not as long and my home theater build will be down the road.

looks awesome. lovin' those pocket holes; definitely makes it look more sleek and professional.

and is it attached to the wall? it looks like there are two screws (or lag bolts) with large washers in the outer bays on the top row. excellent idea.

i need to do that to mine, it's a little wobbly.

great job, though. kinda jealous of the room you have. i may have to make me another (larger) one and move my gear to the side where my current bd rack is located.

i am glad to have helped you and now you're giving me inspiration for a new one.

again, great job and i hope you get it filled with awesomeness.

Working on buying more as I only have 70 blus atm LOL but I have bought those 70 over the last month or so and I plan on keeping that going. I am a gamer so money goes to games first and those aren't cheap.

70 blus in one month is nothing to sneeze at. With Black Friday coming up I'm sure you could fill your shelf up in no time.

If you don't mind me asking I have a couple of questions. How much were the materials? When you said each shelf is 1x6 pieces of wood, would you mind going into detail. By no means am I critiquing your shelf in any shape form or fashion. I just wanted to be clear. It looks as you have 6 long pieces running left to right making the shelves. Two long pieces on each side making the ends. It looks like you have pieces dividing the shelves into sections.

TIA.

I've got about $90 bucks into it, I used the following wood below:

6 - 1x6x8 Top Choice #2
3 - 1x6x6 Top Choice #2
1 - 5.0mmx4x8 Utility Hardwood For The Back Piece

They are one long pieces for the shelfs but I divided them into 3 sections to make it good and sturdy and to prevent bowing. The divider pieces are screwed in using the pocket hole method for a nice finish. The side pieces are also one long piece each and the shelfs are screwed into them using the pocket hole method as well.

Bottom is one long board as well but the back of side pieces has been notched out somewhat to make room for the baseboard so shelf sits flush against wall and no lean against it.
Hope this clears it up a bit more for you and feel free to ask more questions.

Kreg pocket-hole jig. One of the best tools/jigs in my collection.

Thanks for the info. If everything goes well I should be able to give this a go in near future. I'll keep this in mind and will revisit it. I'll make sure to ask questions prior to.

Is there any other way to do the pocket holes besides buying the tool for it?
