I didn't expect to get a tv with all the sales going on. But I was lucky enough to get a Toshiba 50L2200U - http://us.toshiba.com/tv/led/50l2200u/
Upgraded from a 40 1080i LCD. First impressions is wow. What a huge different from my old tv to this. Now I know this is not one of the amazing TV's out there but all I do is watch tv and blu ray's. It really seems to put out a good picture. That being said, can anyone give me some advice as far as getting even better picture from it than the factory settings? Factory had the dynamic backlight at 70, figured that should go down a good amount correct? What about noise reduction and dynamic contrast? never had any experience with these features. They each give me, high, middle, low or off. any help would be great! thanks! |

Its hard to say since every individual HD TV brand and model are different when trying to calibrate picture quality, but the long of the short of it is: turn the noise reduction feature OFF and tone down your backlight to something like 40 (I have mine set on 35). That will improve your black levels and prolong the life of your TV. Also turn OFF any motion enhancement feature. Its only useful for sporting events because it smooths out the frame rate, but its horrible for watching movies on in general.
For others like contrast, brightness, colour/saturation and sharpness, buy or rent a THX optimizer disc which is a step by step easy to follow guide to getting you the recommended settings. You can also find the optimizing software on any THX certified DVD or Blu-Ray for free. For example, the old Lionsgate edition and/or the Skynet edition Blu-Rays of Terminator 2 have it available in the screen menus. Last edited by Blu-21; 11-29-2012 at 01:35 AM. |
