Callas,

Very nice of you. I am an owner but never thought about starting a thread.

I have:

L/R Front - KEF iQ7 Walnut,
Center - KEF iQ60C Walnut,
L/R Surround - KEF iQ8ds,
L/R Rear - Infinity Primus 250, ,
Subwoofers - #1 Acoustic Audio HD-SUB12 Cherry, #2 Kenwood SW300 10" Amp/Enclosure upgraded with Dayton RSS265HF-4 10" Reference HF Driver.

I just purchased the iQ8ds' at the cheap and am happy with the dipole effect.

You guys are welcomed.

The Force "forced" me into it.

I have always liked the look of KEFs, never had a chance to hear them, but they were right there with the Energys on my list of what to buy. I hope this thread will help the KEF name to get out there a little more, I know the Monitor Audio and Energy threads help them become more popular and gain a larger following, so perhaps this will help too. Too often better brands get passed over for the popular polk and klipsch brands.

Yes, and I feel Kef dropped the ball. The C line sounds absolutely horrible to me. Voices lack clarity, and while there's certainly bass, it sounds all mushed together; I feel there's a lack of detail.

I know they're cheap, but they sound cheap to me.

The other Kef product lines are excellent, but I do not like the C series.

That's just my opinion.

Default Converting KEF KIT100s to standard Dolby 5.1

Does anyone know of a way to convert the proprietary KEF KIT100 receptacles to standard speaker terminals to accommodate Dolby 5.1?

These seem like wonderful speakers for a 5.1 system, though they weren't really designed for that purpose; rather, they use a proprietary connector to interface with the KIT100 receiver. I'm trying to find a way to interface them with my 5.1 system, though.

I would sincerely appreciate any advice on how I might do this.

Thank you!

Hi Jason. Have you tried contacting Kef themselves to ask for a possible solution ?

Catch them here :

Speaking of inquiries. I sent one to KEF asking about wall mounts for IQ30's. The manual suggest bookshelf or stand placement. But that's not an option for me. Anyone got suggestions for mounts that can hold the IQ30 weight without need for screw holes in the back? Or do I need to consider the step-down IQ10?

I really liked the B&W 683 fronts and matching center with much more clarity, detail, and imaging than my polks. However I returned the B&Ws because it wasn't a significant improvement in overall sound. I found the sound somewhat boomy and "boxy" and didn't fill the room better than the Polks. So right now im deciding between this new Q series or Paradigm Studio series, which were solid when i auditioned them.

I think you need to decide what it is youre trying to accomplish, do you just want to get higher SPLs in your room for HT? Are you wanting a cleaner sound that will take the speakers out of the equation and just give you the audio mix? Is this gonna involve music listening? And if so at what percentage?

The speakers you have can fill a room, they have lots of highs, they have lots of lows, Mid-range is good for movies and less then average for music. If you want something that will play louder, then you should look at Klipsch Reference speakers. JTRs is another all HT brand.

Your dead on about my current Polks. I feel they are lacking details and the highs I've heard with other speakers I have had the chance to demo (Energy Veritas, Dali, Sonus Faber, Paradigm, Def Tech, B&W). I did audition a Klipsch 5.1 setup in an isolated demo room with high end gear pushing them and i was not that impressed with the overall sound quality. My use is about 70/30
HT/music, and the polks are avg at best with music and above avg for HT. Although the Csi5 blends well with the Rti10s, the clarity and important dialog reproduction is lacking. What sparked my interest in the KEFs was when I recentlty auditioned the IQ90s and IQ60 center and liked what i heard. I would have bought them but felt i needed a bigger sound, if that makes sense.

im not sure what you mean by bigger sound, you want it to sound louder? So you are trying to increase the sound pressure levels in your room?
