Default Sharp Blu ray player will be $399.99

I just met with the local sharp rep and he said the bd-hp20u player will be 399.99 this holiday season, and he said to expect the same pricing on sony and samsung. Just thought Id give an update, this is the first time Ive got some hard numbers from my reps.

That is good to hear. I would love to see one around $299. But that is still good.

It's already been $399 this year.
I think you'll find it down to $349 or less in December.

Current price - $399.78

Any chance that is the MSRP, and thus we'll def. see prices like $349.99 from Target & co ?

Default 40gb Ps3

Just as well to buy a 40GB PS3, $399 for a BD player is now NO DEAL. They need to lower this to $349 or even $299. Your talking about a single function player costing the same and a multi-function player/game machine? I don't think so, the BDA better hustle and get these single player prices down and do it quickly or the Holiday season may not be as rosy as everyone thinks it will be for BD.

the current cost to retailers on all blu ray standalones is $350, even the toshiba a30 costs retailers 350. Sony is losing money on the ps3, because thats their own product. What toshiba is doing with the a3 and a2 is what sony does with its gaming division, eat the hardware cost and make it up in software. Sony cant slash their standalones because that would kill the market for other companies. Thats why nobody else makes hd dud players, toshiba killed the profit margin. I hate to say it, I think 399.99 might be the lowest we see this holiday season. Maybe some door buster blu rays at around 350. I dont think until funai enters the market were gonna see standalones hit 299.99, just my prediction.

One problem with your theory, Toshiba does not make software. Unlike Sony, they do not own a studio. They have to buy studio support, so its a double wammy. The only thing they can hope for if they are taking hits on the players themselves, is to recoup money through royalities.

These guys all want to roll out 1.1 players early next year - so they'll drop the cost to the retailer as well to move out all the old 1.0 stock.

I think 299.99 will sale very well, I hope its true. I better get us some bulk if thats going to be the case!: nothing worse than being out of stock when a customer wants something.
