France La chasse (The Hunt / Jagten) -- English-friendly?

Hi all,

I was looking at the UK release of this film, which is coming from Arrow next week, when I saw that Amazon.fr is listing the French BD as being English-friendly. Initially, I was skeptical, but the info is largely mirrored on Canal's webshop as well. They have both been wrong before, but seeing as the French disc has some listed extras, can any of our French members confirm if the feature and/or extras on this release are, in fact, English-friendly? I'm very curious as to why Canal would have any English options on this Danish film...

I don't have this disc and cannot confirm if there are English subs on it, but StudioCanal financed the film. In certain territories they also distributed it theatrically (the UK). This means that they have some leverage to dictate how the film appears in certain markets.

The Wild Bunch handles international sales, but in France they have a very good relationship with Canal. In fact, they used to be a division of Canal. Now they are a solo player.

I would not be surprised if the Wild Bunch guys worked out some deal with Canal.

Pro-B

p.s. The film isn't in Danish only.

Indeed, it appears to have portions of English, which is probably where the language specs on Amazon.fr are coming from (French obviously being a DUB track), but the English subtitles are a curiosity. I was not able to get Arrow to inform me of any supplements on their disc, and if Canal's disc is English-friendly for the feature and/or extras, or has French subs on the extras, and Arrow's disc does not have any extras, then the Canal disc would become appealing for me.

Hopefully we can get some confirmation in the next few days.

On a related note, it is highly interesting to me that the local release is not materializing until the 7th of May in Denmark. I would have thought that certain parties might wish to impose subtitles to discourage parallel imports (which is still a distinct possibility), but again, stranger things have happened.

The plot thickens, as Arrow has informed me their release contains only a trailer.

Magnolia Pictures have it, so I would expect a limited release and then a US BD soon enough, especially as Mikkelsen's profile in the US will get a huge bump from the Hannibal TV series premiering in April.

Default The HUNT English Version

I received a blu ray of this film by Arrow from amazon.co.uk.
It is the only movie that does not play on my multiregional blu ray system
and I have a large foreign collection. I wrote and told amazon.co.uk that
the blu ray would not play at all. They sent me another one. Just got it
today and that one won't play, either. Something is wrong with the UK
version, so I would not recommend purhasing it. I am going to return it
and see if they will have a downloadable copy that will work in a multi-regional
player. I really want this movie. Mikkelsen is such a great actor-he won best
actor at Cannes for this film.
Good Luck.

Instead of telling Amazon that "there is something wrong" with the release, you should check and see that you have the latest firmware upgrade for your player.

There is nothing wrong with this release
