How could it be sold out when its not even out yet? Unless you are talking about another country besides the U.S.?

Would be very cool to sell them all out before it even hits the street. Wll be interesting to see how the media spin that as a negative, or maybe they'll just throw in the obligatory "ugh, finally".

They'd probably talk about some mythical manufacturing shortage, and how it's typical of Sony to rush a product before they can actually produce the numbers necessary for a satisfactory release.

If this is really true this is great news for PS3, but like someone else said the media will probably turn it in to a negative. Hopefully not though!

Just curious, but what gives you the idea they sold out of the pre-orders?

Looking at the 40gb PS3 on Amazon just shows something about being notified when it's available... if that's all your going by, then I'd say you may be jumping the gun on what's really non-news.

I think you're talking about Nintendo... when they create a demand of their 5 years old console technology and still say they can't produce enought... talk about being 'Stupid' even today you can't walkin and buy a Wii even tought the technology it used is more than 5 years old..

The last time I checked it (maybe two days ago), the 40GB combo was actually up for pre-order with an 11/02/07 release date. It's probably a pretty good guess by the OP that they took pre-orders up to their limit.

At this price, I believe there's a good chance that the 40GB Combo is going to be a "you snooze, you lose" type of item this holiday season. If you want one, better get it as soon as you see it. Take it from somebody in the market for a 60GB before last Christmas.

Forgive me if I don't trust some 15 year old kid on a random enthusiast site =o It doesn't seem to me that there is any reason to believe they sold out of anything... I doubt Amazon is the type give him exclusive information.

I don't see any real news site running it... and I don't see mention of where or how they came upon the information. It looks to me that people are assuming they did because it's now listed as "alert me when it becomes available." I've seen things on amazon go into that mode for no real reason, so if that's the proof, then call me skeptical.

I'd love for the 40gb to do well. I use my PS3 far more than any of my other consoles and thought it was a deal at $600, so I'm not trying to troll, I'm just wondering why people are assuming this. I tend not to trust random websites for news.
