Default 'El Mariachi 4' - Rodriguez and Benderas Eyeing Return to the Series

Quote:
Rodriguez and Banderas Considering Return to the 'El Mariachi' Universe

Robert Rodriguez‘s Mariachi trilogy could turn into a tetralogy. Twenty years after El Mariachi and ten years after Once Upon a Time in Mexico, the filmmaker confirms that he and star Antonio Banderas are considering doing another. “We’ve gotta to do something. We’ve gotta do another ‘El Mariachi’ movie,” he said. “We’d always said that, but [we'd shoot it] much later when he’s older and rounder.”

Unfortunately for Rodriguez, however, the “rounder” part just doesn’t seem to be happening. “We’ve gotta figure something else out, because he’s in better shape now than he ever was,” he added. In the meantime, look for Rodriguez and Banderas to reteam on Machete Kills.

This is fun. So far, these movies have been entertaining for what they are. I like Rodriguez's style, and to me, Banderas is the only real mariachi.

All his movies are made on a moderately low budget, and if it's done well, it could do very well. I didn't think 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico' was bad. It was actually pretty good. As good as 'El Mariachi' and 'Desperado'? No. But it was still a decent movie in its own right. I'm excited for the fourth.

+1 really happy about this, Loved Desperado
El Mariachi is great and Once upon a time was good but they're all enjoyable on their own terms.

Loved Desperado (actually one of my favorite movies of the 90's), but I didn't really care for Once Upon A Time In Mexico mainly due to Johnny Depp (his character was just really weird and didn't fit IMO). As long as Banderas is in it, I'll be all over this!

Desperado and , El Mariachi were fantastic compared to Once Upon a Time. Once Upon a time just had way to much thrown into it for what it should have been.

Once upon a Time was just too different than the rest. it seemed like the Depp character was the main focus instead of the Mariachi. Plus having Selma Hayek in just flashbacks didn't work for me. it isn't a horrible movie, just seemed out of place. could be interesting to see what kind of story they think up of. my guess, it is going to have his son and him doing something.

Love it. This is where Rodriguez should go next, because it still has so much potential as a continuing franchise.

Once Upon a Time was only slightly worse because it focused too much on Depp's character rather than Mariachi, in my opinion.

Wasn't a fan of the first one, but Desperado and OUATIM were great.
