Extrememly interesting mix and not what I was thinking. At lease for the movies I haven't seen it will be nice to see them I hope but I'll probably know more after I see them.

In high school I found Cinema Paradiso and Blade Runner among others but that wasn't in depth like this sounds like it will be.

I'm taking a film class as a requirement this semester... I just pray it'll be nothing but movies and no reading

going through the list again I've seen:

The Wizard of Oz
Modern Times
Citizen Kane
Singing in the Rain
wall*e
A Hard Day's Night

Must see for me at least would be Let The Right One In.
I read the book and that was okay I hope the movie is good.
Always been curious about that so that probably would be worth it to sit through the above mentioned ones to see again

Looks like a pretty solid class. I took a film class a couple of semesters ago, and had to watch a few of those. I am surprised you don't have to watch Birth of a Nation though. Be thankful you don't, but I thought that was a given for a film class...

I don't think I could ever actually sit through it. Its annoying but for purpose of film technique I am surprised also that he is not showing and instead of showing these.

With a degree in Film Studies I took quite a few movie classes. Your movie lineup is pretty solid, though awfully heavy on the contemporary titles. Have fun with it and take as many movie classes as you can...as electives. But if you want to parlay your education into a career that will give you a living wage do yourself a favor and obtain a degree that isn't in the liberal arts--business, accounting, engineering, hard science, healthcare, etc.

The only way to make a career out of history is to either stick with it through the masters & PhD level. With luck you'll land a professorship at some junior college/university. Or you could follow it up with an education certification so you can teach in high school.

I don't say this to discourage you from studying what you find interesting but because at least part of the reason for the time and expense of college is to use it to obtain employment. And liberal arts degrees just aren't worth much unless you plan on perpetuating the liberal arts program at some school. Also, if you do plan on taking it to the next level you should also realize that financial aid can be difficult to obtain if you aren't a minority and/or female.

I don't mean to be a downer, but I majored in Film Studies & minored in History and it wasn't easy finding a job. Needless to say, I'm not in the film or history fields. I wish I had given that more thought when I had the chance. Good luck and have fun with it.

I like how the teacher included Humpday. It's not a good movie, but it is a good movie for a teacher to see which students have the balls to be honest in front of other students. If the teacher promises the kids that any writing about Humpday will remain confidential and not be shared in front of everyone else, then maybe the students will be honest.

Many may not be honest because college kids may still care about what other kids think of them. "You like the idea behind Humpday? haha, you are gay!"

Thanks I'm been going since 2001 and now finally able to finish so I hope I can make some cash and have some sort of life. I might come back and fully get a phd but I want more of a life and have some more spending money.

I am required to write a blog which everyone can see and they have to respond to me as I respond to them. But for the topic of the blog he won't say until the time we watched the movie.

had to drop it. I had to concentrate on History and Anthropology. I would like to do anything like make docs like Ken Burns or do films like Ridely Scott or Tim Burton or so forth. But I'll probably just write and see if I can become an author since at times I can't be socialable like I could never go to the Oscars or anything so I'll probably stick with what I can do. Maybe for a normal job like work in the library since I love books.

Mines full of a bunch of kids who try and over-analyze films like they're the next Scorsese . Its exhausting sitting in a room like that, plus we've got a kid who laughs at everything out loud

Movies aren't bad we've got a couple recent ones.

It's better for a film couse to assign films that you haven't seen before or aren't widely known. Opens up a whole new world of films. It's all about the different ways to tell a story. Many believe there are there is one story and one story only: who am I?

my favorite highschool class of all time was "Film". For an hour a day for one whole year we went through 20 something Oscar winning films from the 30s - 90s. Our only grades was to write a review of the film. Sometimes we'd watch a documentary about the film and then the film itself. Like Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness. The teacher would use the best reasons to get permission for us to watch the films. Like that long scene in Goodfellas where it's a continuous shot.
