Another write-up from my Cinema Arcana FB page:
Some excellent news from Severin Films’ David Gregory, courtesy of a recent interview at ComingSoon – the company will be issuing a domestic Blu of Alex de la Iglesia’s macabre masterpiece, THE DAY OF THE BEAST (El día de la bestia, 1995)! The film follows the story of a Catholic priest who’s hell-bent on committing as many sins as he can to properly prepare to do battle with the Antichrist, whose foretold appearance seems imminent. He teams up with an overweight metal-head and a tabloid TV host for a crash course in evil, but is there enough time? A wonderfully twisted horror comedy from the consistently great Iglesia, THE DAY OF THE BEAST hasn’t seen a U.S. release since Artisan’s VHS tape, whch was not only brutally cropped but also saddled with an astoundingly awful English dub that ruined half the fun. Severin’s release will naturally rectify these issues, properly showcasing this insane film to a whole new group of potential fans. The company is also domestically premiering the director’s cut of Alex de la Iglesia’s unbelievably wild follow-up, PERDITA DURANGO (aka Dance with the Devil, 1997) – a film that was completely destroyed for its original U.S. release.
