According to the review below, the picture quality of this edition is just awful:

Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia Blu-ray Review

Luckily, Pro-B has reviewed the Italian disc, and it looks quite good, though it misses the extras from the French disc.

How are these compared to the Spanish release? Is it the same?

I have not seen any them, but I would be very careful with anything that comes through Opening as there appear to be a pretty good number of titles that use 1080/50i transfers (from very old masters). They have a lot of telecine/filtered transfers as well.

Pro-B

Edit: Just updated the specs for the French release. Indeed, it uses a 1080/50i transfer and has imposed French subtitles.

I have the spanish BD and the french BD, and you can forget the french edition, it is just bad as bad as the french reviewer says it is.

It is soft (grain has been almost completely removed) with bad compression issues and artifacts all over the place in dark areas. Plus it is 1080i.
The spanish looks more filmic, it is 1080p, and it has the original poster as a cover. Head and shoulders above the french release.
Besides, the bonus material is not that good.

I will probably buy the italian disc if I find it cheap just for the cover and because I love the movie so much

Dear Blu-ray experts,

I'm looking for a pardner to place my blu-ray/DVD supplements worldwide regarding films by Sam Peckinpah. I just finished bonus material for the upcoming french KILLER ELITE blu-ray / DVD special edition, but I had learned about that project mainly by sheer luck just four weeks before the deadline. I'm not really following or investigating upcoming Peckinpah releases, being tied up in all sorts of different projects not related to homevideo.

Hence I need someone (or more than one person) who is good at finding out very early about upcoming Peckinpah releases so we could offer possible new or already produced documentaries & featurettes etc. to the involved companies around the globe. I already missed the STRAW DOGS, ALFREDO GARCIA blu-rays, I could have done some nice additional supplements. Just think about the CROSS OF IRON blu-ray, it easily could have become a release without any supplements at all, if someone attached to the label here in Germany would not have rembered an old e-mail of mine.

There must be some persons around who are good at being 'up to date'. In any case, to discuss this matter any further, just forward me a message!

Mike

So does anyone know which is better between the Spanish and Italian releases?

I have not seen the Spanish release, but I was very pleased with the Italian release. It uses a transfer struck from an older master, but there are no problematic DNR and sharpening corrections. The film has a very stable organic look.

The Spanish release could either look the same or worse.

I think that the Italian release is very much worth importing

I agree with Pro-B, I only saw screenshots from the italian disc but they look the same as what I see on my screen when I'm watching the spanish disc.

But again I didn't see the italian disc in motion, nor its BD Infoscan to compare it to the spanish BD.

I guess it would be a matter of price and tastes in cover arts.

(spanish screenshots can be found here: http://www.sundances.net/bring-me-th...d-screenshots/ )
