Paramount World War Z 3D Blu-ray (2013) [Region Free] [Theatrical Cut only]

Watching the superbowl and a WWZ preview comes on, looks totally bad ass.

Then at the end..

"Presented in RealD and Imax 3D"

Wooooohoooooo! I didn't think this movie was releasing in 3d but I guess it got a conversion. Now I'm REALLY excited to see it. I'll try and find the preview later and post it hear.

Anyone else's excitement level just jump through the roof?

Delays and 3D? Just went through the floor... A la GI Joe Retaliation.

Trailer:

It should end up being a hybrid 3D production because it has a ton of CGI.

I'm digressing, but the superbowl ad for the next Star Trek movie also stated 3D engagements - that's new news to me.

Oh this is awesome! I can't wait to get this on blu ray now it's 3D too, i thought the trailers looked pretty cool before knowing about the 3D.

Does anyone know if After Earth is in 3D?

IMAX and RealD 3D. That's been out there for a few months with Star Trek, just not heavily advertised with the 3D since it isn't really needed. They want the words Star Trek to get the majority of your attention.

WWZ looks terrible, IMO. At least from the special effects shots in the trailer it looks cheesy.

It looks cheesy because of the style they are trying to copy from the book. There are millions of zombies in the streets and they are mindless, completely. They don't care what happens to them. Hence the reason they run right off the top of the roof and pile on top of one another to climb over a wall.

Mine did by a huge margin !!!! Zombies in 3d are always entertaining. Can't wait to see 3d footage and the movie itself looks very interesting imo.

The movie looks pretty fun, but it sounds like they just decided to tack on the 3D in post production. Not very promising...

By the time it comes out, it will have been postponed 6+ months. More than enough time to get a good conversion.

Something Keb pointed out - it does appear a lot of the film has CG effects which means they could render a true second perspective (actual 3D) in oppose to 100% converting everything. That's definitely a plus towards quality, though I do understand everyone's skepticism with any conversion.

Let's just hope they did it right!

But it definitely has raised my excitement for the film, I love good Zombie horror. Especially the revamped zombies now days that are not slow and stupid, but fast and lethal (and stupid ).

It's not the timing that bugs me. It's the design. The trailer is full of 2D-style photography and editing. The movie was planned and shot for 2D, and then studio decides to tack on a conversion while they're finishing the CGI effects, delaying it 6 months so they can be like Jim Cameron and "do it right." At best, we get a few convservative CGI pop-outs, a couple of interesting CGI action scenes, and some mediocre converted depth à la Wrath of the Titans. It might end up being a little more fun than the 2D version for 3D enthusiasts, but there is no way it will be a quality 3D experience.

It's sad that Hollywood is still doing stuff like this. If they wanted a 3D movie, why not just hire a director with a 3D vision from the start? June might actually be the perfect release date as summer tends to be the best time at the box office for action movies and the worst time for 3D.

I don't know... A large amount of it will be open cityscapes and aerial shots perfect to help maximize depth perception.

The six month delay has little to do with the 3D, besides apparently trying to polish a tire. The film was delayed last year when they had to re-write the third act and do re-shoots in the fall.

Saw this today. Good mix of suspense, action and humor. The director wisely chose to avoid gore and focused on the story. Would watch again in my home 3D theater.

Agreed!
No way did I expect to enjoy World War Z as much as I did, but it was a really good Zombie movie. I'm not a big fan of Pitt, but he was good here. The acting was good and the story also kept me intrigued. These are in fact zombies (they even call them that in the movie which is nice).

3D? Pretty darn great. The first twenty minutes is okay, but right after Pitt gets on the plane ride and lands in the pouring rain, holy cow, the 3D totally AMPED UP. From almost weak 3D to medium and at times, strong 3D. The layers were clear as day. And then top it off with a tense, well told zombie story. I loved the 3D. The particles of dust, the rain, some pop outs of zombies falling at the screen, great 3D layering of objects, great stuff. I wasn't paying attention to errors or volume of faces much to be honest.

Story: Cool, well told story. I could knit pick a plot point or two, but that wouldn't make watching it as fun as it was.

I really hope there's a sequel as the end suggests, and in 3D. World War Z was a blast and totally unexpected.

PREVIEWS:
Pacific Rim 3D: Wow, awesome 3D. Every time I see a new trailer, I'm more psyched to see this one. Can't wait till July 12th, 2013.

RIPD 3D: Really nice 3D. Looks like a fun movie a Jeff Bridges steals the show.

I really enjoyed this but it isn't as action packed as the previews might lead you to think, its a story line driven film, which was fine by me just not a film that gives 3D a lot of chances to shine.
I was actually thinking about Man of Steel and how this was actually a better conversion (stronger layering), but I think we'll know more accurately when we see it on Blu Ray 3D at home, where we'll get a more consistent viewing angle and presentation.

Though the action could have been more as you suggest, each scene was very memorable and I loved the final scene. Awesome.

Yeah, the lack of gore actually didn't bother me as much as I don't mind seeing it in a movie. I can see they are trying to expand the love for zombies, so keeping it gore free is a good way to get a PG 13. Even so, cool movie.

World War Z is a must buy for me on Blu Ray 3D.

I'm relieved you loved the 3d as much as I did lol! The 3D I also thought made brilliant use of pop-outs for jump scares. I actually yelled in surprise a couple times or so lol

I was also really surpised and giddy as heck with
[Show spoiler] how much they took advantage of strong depth in shots with long hallways at the end. It looked ****ing awesome lol!

The fact that the movie was as scary as it was for a PG-13 and no gore I thought was a huge accomplishment. Would I love an R-rated cut? Absolutely, but I'm totally willing to accept the rating they had again if they continue down the path this movie did

I also FINALLY got to see the 3d trailer for RIPD 3D and my expectations were met and exceeded! I thought the 3d looked fantastic and I was very surprised and impressed with how clean the conversion looked (I think probably because the movie was shot on digital if I'm not mistaken). If Stereo D had a short time window, any signs of it affecting the conversion seem absent to me. Can't freaking wait to see this movie in 3D! looks hilarious and like alot of fun

And I still LOVE the 3d of Man of Steel lol and think it's never week lol. Again it may not be crazy strong, but it's close and It looks awesome on Man of Steel lol.

*edit*

I also forgot to mention I noticed too that they called the undead "zombies" for once which was great. Hearing other names or zombies just doesn't cut it for me all the time lol

mseeley,

Yeah, the 3D was great. The long hall way shots also. Really brings you more into the movie with the 3D, considering World War Z was also scary at times.

RIPD 3D along with Pacific Rim 3D both look great in 3D. I forgot to mention I saw the trailer of Smurfs 2, where they're playing basketball, but don't remember if it was in 3D or not, relating back to how the first one's 3D was disappointing most times.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who really enjoyed World War Z.

Here's hoping with the tough competition of Man of Steel and Monsters University, this one can earn enough world wide to warrant a sequel.

Zip hour giving 3d thumps up automatically puts this on the top of my shopping list when it's released
