USA Introducing EPIX For PS3 and PS Vita: Movies, Concerts, Sports and More

At PlayStation, we’re always looking for new opportunities to give our fans the best entertainment options on our devices. Today we’re proud to share that EPIX, the premium entertainment network, will bring its library of more than 3,000 new release and classic feature films, world-class concerts, comedy specials, sports, and other original programming to PS3 and PS Vita owners across the U.S. this year.

In case you’re not familiar, EPIX is currently available through cable, satellite, and telco TV providers, online, and via other devices. The application will be free to download on PSN, and EPIX subscribers will be able to instantly stream a broad range of movies and entertainment content, including many new and popular releases like Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, The Hunger Games, Thor, and much more.

The EPIX app for PS3 will launch this quarter, with the app for PS Vita to follow later in the spring. Look for more news about EPIX here on the PlayStation.Blog as we get closer to launch!

Tell me about it...

Although PS+ on Vita is giving me the chance to play games I wouldn't have spent money on. Which is a start.

You have your COD... what more do you want?

Vita is in a rather sad state right now. Seems most companies are behind the 3DS or want to put out crappy IOS games.

Epix has really slacked off since launch putting good movies and keeping them up-to date.

I guess you don't like Unit 13, either? What type of FPS do you like? Most seem to like the COD style of play. Others seem to like Unit 13 (Zipper) style of play. You seem to be in niche group.

You can surf the net with the Vita (browser scored much higher than Wii U's browser).

I'm a Battlefield kind of guy myself. If I had a water down but still good version of BF3 on the Vita, I cannot describe in words the geekgasm I would have.

Okay.

There is a test that assesses a browsers compliancy across many factors. Then, a number is given based on a 100 point scale (Acid3 test). Go to the browser tests for gaming consoles. PS Vita is 100/100.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid3

However, for HTML5, I read that the Wii U browser was slightly better than the PS Vita and PS3 (same browser, now).

Eh, Epix was cool on Xbox when they released it a year or two ago and it got old about 24 hours later.

So is Epix free of monthly fees? The article is unclear as it describes it as free to download but also it has a subscription...

You definitely have to subscribe. I believe it's about $10/ month.

This guy just smacked you down with hard facts John. You make me sick with all your Nintendo love as of late. That Wii U will be a paper weight in a couple months, like the last Nintendo gimmick system.

And isn't our Vita nothing but a paperweight?

Most people think Derek is a freak, I just consider him eccentric.

A paperweight that doesn't make me feel like a fruitcake, like a Wii U would. Wii systems are gimmicky junk.
