Yes. But you could opt for the UK release:

The second picture in this review appears to indicate that French subs accompany the English track as standard (I know it's DVD, but I'm guessing Blu-ray will be the same). This sort of set-up looks worryingly similar to I Love You, Philip Morris. Can anyone familiar with Metropolitan releases confirm that this is their usual way of doing things and that you can infact remove them once the film starts playing? Thanks in advance.

Hello,
We currently have Metroloplitan's Black Dahlia disc (and I will actually put up the review shortly) and one can indeed turn off the French subtitles. I've also tested about ten additional discs from Metropolitan and none has had imposed subs. This being said, we don't have Solomon Kane yet, as we will likely review the UK version, so I cannot confirm for you whether the French subs are optional. Pro-B |

I was looking through past reviews of the Metropolitan releases on that site and most give the option of choosing French subs on either audio track or having none at all. Perhaps they changed tact on Solomon Kane for some reason? It's no big deal I suppose since I can get the UK version, but the French one has much better packaging.

According to the director the subs on the french Blu-ray are forced when you listen to the english track.

Hi,
I have the French Edition of "Solomon Kane" and unfortunately it has forced French subtitles when choosing the English language track. I would therefore recommend buying the UK BD instead. Both (french and UK) are Region B locked. The French BD has a few more extras (ComiCon feature) and a better menu than the UK Disc. Still the forced subtitles on the French release are a dealbreaker for me so I would recommend getting the UK BD instead. Last edited by faust1103; 07-06-2010 at 06:29 AM. |
