Disney John Carter 3D Blu-ray (2012) [Region Free]

John Carter 3D Blu-ray

John Carter 3D is about to hit theaters in the US March 9, 2012 and the Blu Ray 3D will probably follow a couple months after, maybe by May, June 2012 as a guess.

If the most recent 3D trailer is anything to go on, this 2D to 3D post converted Disney Live Action/Adventure/Sci Fi film has excellent 3D.
The film is about a hero who has to rescue a planet of aliens from evil. The trailer doesn't reveal much of the plot, other than Carter fighting in a battlefield, space ships, an arena with pit monsters with an alien audience (picture the Arena scene from Star Wars Episode II: Clone Wars)...

It's on my must see list in theaters and hopefully on Blu Ray 3D, followed by Wrath of the Titans 3D March 31st, 2012.

Thoughts?

Isn't two months kind of a short window for home video release?

I think it usually takes about 4 months after the theatrical release date for movies to come out on blu-ray. 3 at the earliest if they are trying to squeeze one out for Christmas shoppers.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing John Carter in IMAX 3D though. Both 3D trailers looked fantastic.

Trailer 2:

Trailer 1 (Russian) - Starts at 8:16 (also on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides BD3D):

Thanks a bunch BleedOragne for the 3d trailers!!! had been looking for them and couldn't find them lol. Plus, I finally found a way to get good quality youtube 3d videos on my tv without a horrible amount of artifacts, so these should theoretically be a treat to view on on my set!

Anyway, I'm super excited for this movie! I'm probably going to head to the midnight IMAX 3D showing to see if I can nab that sweet IMAX poster

Thumbs up

Yeah, Thanks Bleed Orange for posting those trailers.

June 2012 is probably the earliest it'll be on blu 3D.

This movie reminds me slightly of the movie Outlander with Jim Caviezel from that show "Person of Interest" on TV, where he lands on a strange planet and ends up being the hero.

I hope the story and action are good. From the trailer, so far, they only show 2 big action scenes, the war in the battlefield, and the arena fight against the monsters.

If the 3D is as strong as Disney's Alice In Wonderland, that would be great. This trailer's 3D stunned me at the theater when I went to see Underworld Awakening 3D. I didn't think it would look as good as it did, having only seen the 2D trailers prior.

Oh, I have very high expectations for the film itself, 3D quality aside. John Carter is based on a comic book, but the film is being done by the same writer/director from the Toy Story trilogy, Finding Nemo, Wall-E, Monsters Inc., and A Bug's Life. Sometimes animated directors flop with live-action, but Andrew Stanton knows how to tell good stories and Disney's production values are always outstanding. I'm expecting big things from this one. A high quality 3D conversion + IMAX are icing on the cake.

I saw a five minute scene in cinemas for this in 3d and it looks amazing (both the film and the 3d).

Actually, it's older than comic books. John Carter is based on the books by Edgar Rice Burroughs from the 1910s. He's the same man who wrote Tarzan, and the books about Mars/Barsoom inspired books and comics and movies like Flash Gordon which would inspire other movies like Star Wars which would inspire other comics and movies like Avatar.

Awesome. Thanks for correcting me. I'm even more excited about the movie now. Have you ever read any of ERB's books?

Cool. Sounds like the story won't disappoint with that background of hits.

That's true. Resident Evil Afterlife 3D was in theaters September, and by late December of the same year, it made it to Blu Ray 3D.

I hope another new trailer with some new details on the story is released before release.

I believe studios make an agreement with most theater chains that they will not release a movie outside of theaters until at least three months after it opens (this was an issue when Universal was planning on doing video on demand showings of Tower Heist a few weeks after release, but dropped the idea after some theater chains said they wouldn't show the movie if Universal went through with that), so June would be the earliest a 3D blu-ray would come out.

But hopefully the film and its 3D are great, given how influential the novels have been in science-fiction, Stanton's success as a director at least with animated films, and the fact that I heard he is using Pixar's 3D team to oversee the conversion, there could be potential there.

Well, if it flops at the box office, they'll want to get it out on blu as fast as possible. Remember how Alice in Wonderland (even though it became a huge BO success) was released just three months after the theatrical premiere, and that was Disney as well.
I'm guessing a late June release for this one.

The biggest challenge with getting audiences to see this, is "who is the villain?" From what I've seen, I'm not sure who the bad guy is. Considering he's the one that fuels the entire story (imagine Star Wars without Darth Vader), they need to really show case how "evil" the villain is, and how John Carter has to pull out all of the stops to defeat them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Carter_movie

Anyone have any information on the villain?

From what I have seen from the theaters, this look pretty good in 3D. Looks like it might have a good story and pretty good 3D effects... at least the trailer was pretty good. Was it shot in native 3D?

I watched the trailer before watching Star Wars I in 3D, which really had disappointed me a great deal. I guess I was expecting more from George Lucas. Anyway, I am looking forwards to catching the John Carter 3D flick.

Yeah, I was also expecting great things with a 3D Star Wars. I don't know what happened, but Lucas' 3D doesn't have much strength. Not very striking at all. I guess he thinks most fans want subtlety.

John Carter's live action is said to be filmed in 2D, then converted to 3D from what I read. That said, a lot of the film is CGI, (computer graphics imagery) so they usually have those teams animate those shots with 3D already in mind, resulting in better 3D.

I think with Star Wars, it's an old film, shot on older technology and the CGI wasn't re-rendered as far as I know. It wasn't likely to look very good, I bet the next two will look better, but I doubt the original trilogy will look that good(unless conversion technology improves immensely in three years)

John Carter was going to be 3D from early on and the film was conceived for 3D.

Erm, go watch Dark of The Moon and tell me which 78 minutes where converted. Conversion can be as good as the real thing when done right. However if a dilm isn't even framed for 3d, it of course isn't likely to look as look good as it could (whether it is converted or shoot natively in 3d).

Is Dark of the Moon from 1998? Is it from 1977?

No it's from this year, and it was going to be in 3D since day one. It was conceived for 3D which is why it looked good in 3D, and that's the same reason why John Carter looks so good in 3D.
Star Wars didn't look nearly as good because it was old, and it's CGI effects weren't re-rendered. Even with Transformers 3, where the CGI wasn't re-rendered - the conversion company at least had access to files and assets for the CGI.

Also, I don't even understand your reply... you're arguing, but you're essentially agreeing with what I've already said.

Although, I can tell what scenes were shot in 2D for DOTM because they're extremely grainy compared to other shots. Michael Bay's visual style, when using film is very gritty and grainy.
