So here's the plan guys, I have 5 rooms upstairs andi can use any one of the rooms to become my HT. Im currently thinking combining Room 4 and 6 to become a bigger new HT. But there are other rooms i can pick, like room 5 for example, its a little bigger it just that it has too many windows. can you guys please help me point out which rooms that would be best or combine? Im very interested and curious to hear what you guys have to say.

Two of your three links are dead. Lots of work to take out the wall. Room 3 looks like the easiest option. i agree 5 is not ideal with all those windows, but I like plasmas. |

Embedding pictures into posts is usually a better way to attract users than links to pictures... one less thing for people to click on... and truth be told the question is one that isn't fielded to often, I've been posting on HT forums for a long time and have never seen a post where someone is looking to convert two rooms from what appears to be the second story of a VERY big home. Neat challenge but I don't have a ton of input on which two rooms to work with and I usually have something to say ![]() Looking at the pic again, I'd rule out 2 and and 3 because of the on-suite bathroom, 5 looks like the master and it has an on-suite so I'd leave that alone too, then looking at 4 and 6, on their own, 11x12 isn't a huge room for front projection, don't get me wrong, it's totally doable as my room is about that size but not terribly ideal, each only have one window to block which seems like a plus, I'm not sure I'd be ready to knock down a wall in my own house, I can't imagine it would help resale unless you did a really bang-up job on the room, but with the master bedroom right next door I'm not sure I'd want a theatre next to my bedroom... like said... tough choices, I don't have a lot of input ![]() Last edited by roar; 03-14-2013 at 12:29 AM. |

For acoustics reasons Room 3.

EDIT: If you DO decide to go this route, consult with a Structural Engineer to make sure it is safe and how to go about it. Knocking out wall puts more stress to your walls/ceilings. It is definitely doable, but depending how much work if any, it can be expensive. Last edited by elninoloco7; 05-09-2013 at 06:04 PM. |

I don't know why, but it never occurred to me that I could put a theater room on any other floor of my house other than the the first floor or in the basement.
![]() I just want to thank the OP for spurring a train of thought that made me realize that the finished attic on the third floor might work perfectly for this. ![]() |
