Editing this.
Either way, Outrage Coda is coming from Film Movement on November 20th, 2018. My personal favorite Japanese film in the last two years. Last edited by DukeTogo84; 10-04-2018 at 02:38 AM. |

It does. My primary concern is getting this film as wide of an audience as possible. Most people here aren't going to spend $60 on it, and won't buy it on DVD. It's a pretty mainstream title, so I'm surprised they aren't sure of it's potential on blu-ray. I'm hoping people here contact them, and let them know there is interest. At this point they release about half of their new titles on blu. So it's 50/50, but if enough people show interest, there is a much higher chance it coming out on blu-ray soon. Most new Japanese titles are either to artsy or over the top silly for an average movie goer to enjoy. The Outrage films are pretty straight forward. |

Still, if you would like to see this on BD, please let them know! I watched it last week and enjoyed it as it really brings everything full circle from the first two films. |

maybe not excuses, but reasons, maybe. J films being licensed for any global market seem to get hit with clauses that delay their release. maybe the licensee compromised and said 'DVD only' to allow the J BD discs to have a better chance of not being undercut by grey imports?

I actually e-mailed Magnolia when Outrage Coda's first trailer came out and asked them if they would be releasing this as well. They told me no and when I asked why not, their answers started getting weird.

I know that's not what people want to hear. It sucks, I personally feel it sucks, but that is reality. Blu-ray is not the same as DVD as a format, it is considerably more expensive to author and press Blu-ray discs and the smaller boutique labels are understandibly going to require confidence in the saleability or marketability of a title before they take the plunge, and if it's the last film in a trilogy that has underwhelmed sales-wise on the format? What can you do? IMO I think your best bet of persuading FilmMovement is to start one of those online petitions/polls (not sure how myself, but I'm talking about those proper formal polls/petitions that people make) and tour this topic across every asian cinema forum you can think of, because you're definitely not gonna generate much interest on these boards alone. Just the way it is I'm afraid. |

I'm not sure where else to post or do a poll. I always thought the Outrage films sold well for Magnolia as there was a Facebook page with over 10,000 members. Lots of people talk about the films and there is plenty of interest via Youtube fan made videos. Dunno. I would think it's a safer bet than most Japanese films that are released. Only issue is that Film Movement is a bit of a smaller company, that they don't advertise a whole lot. Hopefully this topic in itself is a bit of an advertisement. |

Well that facebook page would certainly be a good place to go next. You could try all the big popular boards like DVDTalk, Home Theater Forum, criterion.org, etc but perhaps you'll reach the widest "pool" by going to social media.
At the end of the day the first film sold well enough to justify Magnet distributing the sequel in the US (which seems more than what we've had here in the UK, studiocanal released the first and walked away) but they passed on the third film. That tells you something: Either the cost of licensing it is much higher than the first two, or the first sequel just didn't sell well. |
