Default What should I use to store my Blu-rays/dvds in college?

So, in September I am going to college, and plan on bringing my blu-ray player. I know I can't bring every movie, but I'm trying to think of the best way of storing them.

Recently I've been thinking of one of these, it would allow me to bring more:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-200-Disc...11100215550%26

I also have a few mini shelves I bought (that hold about 20) that I could possibly bring.

I don't know why this concerns me so much, but has anyone else experienced this?

(sorry if is in the wrong thread)

If you have the $, maybe consider a digital collection with uv itunes etc. Buy the movies you think you'll want to watch.

no theft or sharing with roomates

When I moved to college, I burned all 300 of my DVDs and brought the burned copies with me in a CD booklet thingy. That way, no worries about people losing or ruining my movies and no storage problems.

Of course, this was 2005 and blank CDs were cheap, I don't know how much blank BDs are though...

BD-25s run about $1 a piece while BD-50s run about $3.50 a piece.

During my college years I brought a large part of my DVD (and later, Blu-ray) collection along with me in boxes. I wouldn't recommend this, as the cases will begin to get scuffed up after hauling them back and forth a few times. The case you're looking at is a good option, as I used something similar to bring my CDs along with me.

My old DVD's ended up being scattered to the winds in my dorm room time. I wouldnt suggest a cd book because all of them would be in one easy to steal loaction.

Yah, I'm kind of leaning toward this. I may get a smaller one though, I don't need to bring 200 movies with me lol

The only cases I may bring are for boxsets (Harry Potter and Die Hard) and tv seasons.

I love the cases, but I wouldn't have room for them. Do they scratch easy in these "binders"?.

dang that is a good point. Unless I lock it in my "lock box". But that may be a hassle after awhile.

I am going to College in the fall too and I don't plan on bringing any Blu-ray's with me for two main reasons:

1. I don't want them to be stolen.
2. I am going to a College around 24 hours away from where I am living right now.

I will probably buy some while I am there, but I will hide them.

The dorm building that I am living in has a Movie Lounge which looks really nice, so that might be handy.

I'm not too worried about anything getting stolen. My roommate is a friend from high school. And the only way to get into your room is your hotel-like key card.

When I first started college I wasn't dealing with blu-rays yet but instead DVDs and I made the choice of bringing almost half of my collection with me (like I really was going to watch all of those movies in one semester). In the beginning I just stored them over my desk but before spring semester I made room in my trunk and stored them in there. In the end, I really regretted bringing them there because my roommates and even boyfriend were just totally disrespectful towards my items when I let them borrow it (I was just too nice but now really stingy when it comes to my blu-rays).

Moral of the story is if you're going to bring your blu-rays you should make sure you have maybe some kind of container or even a trunk (which is a lifesaver for college students imo) to just place them in. That way you don't have to worry about anyone touching them but yourself. The binders are also a good idea because it's easier to just store.

My dorm uses key cards too but you can never be too careful with people.

+1 on the trunk/container idea... I like the CD Booklet, but advise against it... It just screams 'Steal Me'.... Even though you have a trustworthy roomie, you never know who might end up in your room, or their intents... Better to be safe than sorry.

I brought a few hundred movies with me to college. The only time I had any trouble with missing DVDs was freshmen year, but after that I never had a problem with them disappearing. Caution: if you bring all of them prepare to be a popular guy. Everyone will want to borrow them.

I lived in dorms for three out of five years, and always brought my movies with me.

So, the two years I had a roommate - I had a case like you linked. I kept it on a shelf - never had a problem. I did make burned copies of a good chunk of DVDs, but I had originals as well.

This past year I had a single room (well, it was a suite. We each had a room and shared a bathroom). I had my case full of DVDs, all five seasons of BBT and a crapload of Disney Blu-rays on a shelf. Again, never a problem.

I went to a school where crime is high (hello DeKalb IL, how you doing). My biggest suggestion would be burning them if you're uncomfortable, or ripping them to an external hard drive.

My freshman year I was all about security, all my DVDs were burned copies and I had a lock for my computer. As I got older, I realized no one really wanted my stuff. Dorm security is at an all time high these days, and as long as you take it seriously (lock your door, etc) nothing usually happens. My last dorm was built in a cluster style. We had six suites with bathrooms around a shared living/media room. You used a key card to get into that shared space, with a pin code. We all left movies/games/etc in there without a single problem. When we thought about it, to get to our stuff you had to get through four previous doors. It's not that easy.

Put them under your mattress with the Playboys.

When I went away to college I put them in a folder like the one you linked too. I'm not sure if there are "big lots" stores in your area but you can pick up binders that hold 300+ discs for about $10 there.

Just a word of caution, especially if your going to have a roommate, I would keep the binder in a chest or a drawer when your not using it. More than a few times I could come home to my roommate's buddies (whom I had no idea who they were) going through my collection. Also, if you have a digital copy or if the move is on netflix, I would leave the disc at home.
