Default Christine on blu ray

So i'm expected to pay £80 for this blu ray, yeah? Why do companies only 3000 copies of this? It's absurd...

Um, why post this on its own all of a sudden, and also in the UK section when the limited 3000 Twilight Time edition was from the US.

Anyway, that's the company's way of doing things: 3000 copies as a limited run. If you wanted a copy you should've preordered it before it sold out.

I also have my TT copy. No sympathy for whiners who did not get a copy.
Was flagged up months in advance here this would be a very rapid sellout with plenty of indication of the on sale day. It then took around 7 hours to sellout. So plenty of time to order.

What? I didn't een get a chance to order this!!!!!!!!! I wasn't a member on here by the time this was released!!! So how the hell is this my fault all of a sudden? Had I known about this of course I would have brought it immediately.

3000 limited copies is stupid. Theres actually nothing to gain by doing that.

You know, I am a huge supporter of film and I like the way a lot of films are translated to blu ray. I go to the cinema, pay my full ticket and am against 3D as well as piracy, but I think i'm going to just download a 1080p copy of Christine and Fright Night somewhere because theres no way i'm paying a ridiculous amount of money for an item that shouldn't be more than £10. It's nuts.

Unfortunately that just the way Twilight Time roll. If the title you're after is sold out then just put it out of your mind and wait for a release in another region. They are expensive at $30 as you'll need to pay import VAT on top and I think Twilight Time's postage is expensive. Obviously they'd sell out a lot quicker if they were $20 )they'd be under our import limit too) and Twilight would lose $30,000 on each title!

They have introduced a limit to how many copies a customer can buy so you'll have a better chance in the future if they're releasing a title you're after but Christine is now only available by third party sellers.

Thanks chip. By far the most reasonable and productive response I have had on this thread by far.

It sounds like its about £30 if you get it preordered. Better than 80 quid, but still pricey.

I guess I am hoping Twilight Time do not get their hands on any titles I want in the future. For now, i'll download a hi res version and stick with that for now.

Come to think of it, theres a distinct lack of John Carpenter's films on blu ray over here. At least the films I like/have seen. Wish there would just be a boxset or something.

The only blu's I would pay x amount of money for is if a company released Buffy & Angel with high quality PQ transfers. I'd probably pay up to £100 each for those because they are ONE film is not worth anywhere near that much, no matter how much of a cult film it is.

Anyways, think i'm over it. Thanks again chip.

You're welcome.

We've been left behind with Carpenter titles. Shout Factory has quite a few including The Fog, Prince of Darkness and They Live but they lock most of their titles (they're also more reasonably priced than Twilight Time titles). Hopefully we'll see a few more over here and at a higher quality than the ones we've had!

I could've sworn I saw The Fog at a CEX store recently. Might have been a DVD mistaken as a blu ray though.

Yeah, i've heard about Shout Factory. Some nice titles on there but as you say they are region locked. I guess our equivalent to them is Arrow? Just seen some potentially fun titles on there, so may give some of them a try.

Just imported the Italian version of They Live, transfer is meant to be the best one available but the cover looks the pits. I'd even spend money just to get a different cover for that one.

The Thing is the only one that looks decent that we have available over here, and even with that, the more I watch it the more the DNR becomes noticeable. Still miles ahead of the DVD, though, specially that first release!

Fog is available in a reasonable cheap UK release from Optimum, so you were not imagining it
Review is available on this site
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Fog-Blu-ray/2036/

There is also a US release from Shout Factory, referenced above, which is RA locked. It has better picture, sound and many more extras
Again a review available here

Paid £70 for mine off eBay a few months ago. Price didn't bother me as this is one of my favourite Carpenter films.

If you want it you have to pay the going rate.

Ah right, sounds like I might as well avoid until a a) get a region free blu ray player or b) wait until a better quality blu ray comes out. It's not exactly my favourite Carpenter film anyway so i'm not that fussed about it right now. I'd much prefer to get to buy Assault On Precinct 13 and Big Trouble In Little China.

What about Escape From New York? Heard the blu ray disc over is basically an upscaled DVD..if that's the case I might just buy the DVD...i've never seen it, though.

There's no real good BD version of Escape. Mind you, the movie itself never looked stellar to begin with (I watched a very good 35mm print of it in the spring).

As for Christine, yeah, well, that's how things are with Twilight Time and Sony at the moment. Your best chance is that Sony will release it themselves in the EU (Sony don't sub-license over here). Or that someone else will pick it up, once TT's three year window expires in 2016.

It's really only been TT's horror titles that have sold out so fast. Other titles that have sold out, have taken months to do so. Might be worth keeping an eye on what they are releasing. I know I am looking forward to their release of The Blob 1988 remake next year and I will sit ready on my laptop the moment pre-orders go online.

Big Trouble in Little China is finally getting a UK release from Arrow.
You can also buy the Fox release which is region free and pretty much released everywhere else. I picked up from the US for around £5. That includes the extras from the SE DVD.

Disappearance from the most reason batch of TT is actually RA locked. Says so on their website listing. The first TT BD to be region locked.
