Default Happy 25th birthday Die Hard!

Happy 25th anniversary DH, the best action thriller ever made!

What is everyone's favorite scene and moment? and what are your memories of seeing this for the first time?

My favorite scene was when John threw the corpse on Al's car then shooting at the car as Al is yelling and also the climax which had me on the edge of my seat always.

My memories are great as i recalled seeing this 4 times in theaters when i was 7 and my family loved it, i watched it every christmas since.

my favorite moment is when John takes the "advice" from one of the robbers (not terrorists) about when you have a chance to kill someone, don't hesitate. I think it was Marco.

that whole sequence is my favorite,

damn, im about to put on the movie on now in my ps3 and give it a spin.

I love favorite scene is when is when John's wife...can't remember her name right now and when she sees of the terrorists stomping through the room, angry knocking stuff over and she says this quote:

"He's still alive." a friend of hers says "How do you know?" and with a smirk on her face she replies, "Only John can make someone that crazy."

Every scene in that movie is a classic.

But I especially remember really liking the scene when McClane finds "Bill Clay". The tension and suspense where we know but we think John doesnt... right up until "whoops...no bullets. You think Im f'in stupid, Hans?"

DenOfEarth jumped the gun by a month! It was JULY 15, 1988, not June. TODAY is its 25th birthday.

There's a great look back at Die Hard today over at the Digital Bits.

A few of the interesting factoids:
  • Only grossed $83M domestic (still only $150M adjusted - not a blockbuster by any means), $140M worldwide
  • $7.1M opening weekend (wide); was never #1
  • First weekend was only released in 21 theaters, all showing the 70mm print exclusively
  • Cost only $28M to make - adjusted would still be under $50M
  • Some translated international release titles included Hard to Kill (Latin America), The Glass Jungle (Spain), Big Building Fight (Thailand), Operation Skyscraper (Scandinavia), Die Slowly (Germany), The Crystal Trap (France and Italy), and A Hard Nut to Crack (Russia).
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Burt Reynolds and Richard Gere all reportedly passed on playing the role of John McClane.
  • Roger Ebert gave it a Thumbs Down

Nope. It released in 21 theaters on 7/15/88, exclusively in 70mm. Week #2 (7/22) saw it expand wide to another 1200+ theaters.

(that would be like saying Star Wars didn't actually open in May 1977 (when it opened in only 43 theaters), but rather in June when it expanded to 157 theaters, or when it finally broke 1000 theaters in August.)
