Default Late Night Classics Volume 1 - Virgin High & Hot Under The Collar from Culture Shock

Quote:
Jerry Kaminski is a normal guy with normal desires, but he gets into more than the normal amount of trouble. After keeping his date Christy out too late one night, her parents send her off to Catholic school! Jerry isn't one to shy away from a challenge, so he impersonates a priest to get into Virgin High and back into Christy's good graces (and maybe more)! Then, when a hypnosis scheme goes awry, Jerry finds that he's not the only one Hot Under the Collar at the Convent of the Blessed Virgin. In a nun disguise, Jerry chases his hypnotized honey to save her from a life of celibacy, but first he has to deal with a crime syndicate's missing jewels.

After directing his popular shot-on-video Assault of the Party Nerds, Richard Gabai returned to sex comedies with the backing of the legendary Menahem Golan, this time on film! These charming, sexy romps feature cult favorites Linnea Quigley (Nightmare Sisters, Thrust), Melinda Clarke ("The O.C.", Return of the Living Dead 3), Burt Ward ("Batman"), Michelle Bauer (Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, The Flesh Merchant), Daniel Friedman (Slashdance), and more. You're going to need an extra trip to the confessional after watching these!

Culture Shock Releasing is proud to present Richard Gabai's Virgin High and Hot Under the Collar, lovingly restored from new 2K transfers of the 35mm prints.

directed by: Richard Gabai

Can't wait to see what else they release. This new line of releases that will focus on video store and cable television favorites is right up my alley.

Wow this is gonna sell out for sure this weekend, only half left after I placed my order today. I love these USA Up All Night era films, this will go right next to Miracle Beach and Girlfriend From Hell.

The real heroes are the studios that release forgotten rental only VHS gems on Blu ray for the very first time, I will probably buy all of these. I love picking this stuff up rather than just upgrading a film for the 4th time because it got a 4k scan

Fingers crossed they can somehow acquire Summer Job (1989). This has been my favorite summer/beach sex comedy since I first saw it on USA Up All Night. I still watch it regularly (VHS rip on DVD-R) on a late Saturday night and hope to someday see it in a nice HD presentation.

Summer Job is a SVS Films production so it's with Sony (SVS = Sony Video Software).

Sony has shown it (in SD) on their Sony Movie Channel but that's about all they've done with it.

I love the soundtrack. My favorite songs from it:

If it's with Sony it has no chance of coming out on Blu-ray. Kino had a hard time trying to release anything from their deal with them. Plus since Sony doesn't allow outside restorations they would have to create a HD master themselves. Something they've rarely done with older obscure titles. That's why Sony has a lot of titles still in SD limbo.

Yup, the soundtrack is one of the main reasons I enjoy Summer Job so much.

"You're All the Love I Need" playing over the opening ariel shots of Florida is very nostalgic and sets the mood perfectly.

I knew there was a reason I’ve always liked you! Couldn’t have put it better myself mate. Totally agree. First time on Blu stuff keeps me in love with the game. There are only so many re-releases of the same movies I can take.

Maybe the well for new to Blu titles is drier than we think? Take MVD Rewind line for example. Great line that started off strong with fresh stuff. I think out of their last 25 or so releases, maybe 5 titles have been fresh to Blu?

Anyway, as Telemachus said, labels like Culture Shock are the real heroes for giving us VHS gems on Blu for the first time.

Actually there's a lot of titles still without a blu-ray release. The reason why some of them are still in limbo can be either cause of legal issues, lack of acceptable film elements to make a HD master from or other things.

That is what I am trying to say mate. There are tons upon tons of unreleased titles, but no one seems to be releasing them. I’m assuming that is because of legal/element reasons, hence the well must be running dry for legally cleared/element and rights issue free titles.

Look at Gleaming the Cube, same thing. It seems like VinSyn and partner labels are some of the only people putting out things for the first time, all the majors or bigger boutiques like Arrow/Shout/Criterion more or less are just triple dipping sure things at this point from DVD era for UHD.

Also the possibility of the title not selling well to justify the cost of a new HD master is another factor. It's the reason why Code Red declined to release ''Monolith'' (1993) as part of their Universal deal.

Totally agree mate. Something has to be going on for titles like Gleaming the Cube not getting a release. I never mind an upgrade of something that was only on DVD or a really poor Blu Ray, but these days, it is just triple dipping from the labels you mentioned. The ratio for new to disc stuff and upgrades is way off.

Fair point. You would think the bigger labels would take more risks though, because they have the capital to create new HD masters. Especially Arrow. They shift titles just on their name alone. I fully get the business side of things, but there are only so many triple dips collectors can take. Thankfully Vinegar Syndrome and labels like Culture Shock + Terror Vision do seem to be pumping out some never on disc stuff.
