Hey guys. My 6 year-old Infinity PS10 subwoofer finally gave up the ghost, and I ordered a BIC PL-200 to replace it. I was wondering if anything could be done with the old one? I would give it away to somebody locally if so to keep it out of the landfill. I've never heard if speakers or subwoofers can be repaired by people with the knowledge to do so.

There could be a number of things wrong with it that could be fixed easily... but with an original street price in the $400 range it looks like and being 6 years old I'm not sure how much someone would invest in fixing it even if they got it for free. This subwoofer is powered so it could be something as simple as a blown fuse in it, though I don't see one easily accessible from the back so it would likely need to be opened up to have a look.
You could throw it up on craigslist or check to see if you have a local 'freecycle' yahoo group. Worst case you post on craigslist that it will be at the end of your driveway and someone is welcome to it. |

Thanks. I was thinking about freecycle as well. I've gotten rid of several things in the past on there. As for what is wrong with it, all I know is that it was making a noticeable hissing noise for a week or two and then finally died for good.

Try an audio store if you've got free time to go there, I think they could fix it for ya. What i'd do with these old things is i'd leave em as backup replacements for my main equipment.
If for some reason the new subwoofer your buying breaks, you'd always have a replacement ready to be wired in, temporarily. Its really up to you, if you don't want it I think a store would take it. |
