"It is with great sadness that I have to report that my wife and best friend, Karen Black has just passed away, only a few minutes ago. Thank you all for all your prayers and love, they meant so much to her as they did to me."https://www.facebook.com/stephen.eck...51524884835178

"Karen Black, a versatile actress whose name became virtually synonymous with films that reflected and helped define America in the late 1960s and early 1970s, including “Five Easy Pieces,” died Thursday in Los Angeles. She was 74.

A family spokesperon has confirmed her death.

Diagnosed with ampullary cancer in 2010, Black had sought help from the public earlier this year to cover the cost of her medical treatment. An appeal by her husband, Stephen Eckelberry, on a crowd-sourcing website raised more than $60,000.

Black was born in suburban Park Ridge and went to Northwestern University for two years. She then moved to New York where she first appeared in several off-Broadway productions.

Among her most famous movie roles was the pregnant girlfriend of Jack Nicholson's character in "Five Easy Pieces," for which she would receive an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

She also played an aspiring actress in "Day of the Locusts" (1976), a country singer in "Nashville" (1975), a sexually confidant lover in "Portnoy's Complaint" (1973) and a kidnapper in Alfred Hitchcock's final film, "Family Plot" (1976)."http://www.chicagotribune.com/entert...,1998067.story

So sad to hear of her passing! I just watched Family Plot last week and just loved her in it. Burnt Offerings is a great horror classic. so many films but she was great in every film Id ever seen her in from The Great Gatsby, Nashville, Five Easy Pieces, Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean.

I recently watched Karen Black in Hitchcock's Family Plot, but I have also been watching the America Lost and Found box set as well, which includes her roles in Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces, and Drive, She Said. Such a sad day!

I loved Karen Black in Nashville and Five Easy Pieces. So why do I feel more inclined to throw Airport 1975 into the player to mark her passing ?

Very sad news. I met her here in KC one time when she was doing an appearance at a local theater. She was friendly and stopped to talk to me for a few minutes. She will be missed.

Default [R.I.P.] Karen Black (1939 - 2013)

Loved her in 'Trilogy of Terror'

In some sad news today, it seems that legendary actress Karen Black has passed away at the age of 74 after a battle with cancer. Horror fans no doubt know her from films like Some Guy Who Kills People, Trilogy of Terror, Soulkeeper, Burnt Offerings, Mirror Mirror, Invaders from Mars and of course House of 1000 Corpses.

A versatile actress, Black also had notable roles in such cinema classics as Bob Rafelson’s Five Easy Pieces and Dennis Hopper’s Easy Rider (both films co-starring with Jack Nicholson) as well as Robert Altman’s Nashville.

I'd actually forgotten Family Plot and Trilogy of Terror; I'd just seen Burnt Offerings, but for some reason, I just kept remembering the Airport 1975 joke about "Karen Black can't land the 747, she's too crosseyed! "

Karen Black was an awesome actress and by most accounts, a nice lady. Unfortunately, I knew this news would come any day now.
