![]() ![]() in "Easy Rider" "It is with great sadness that I have to report that my wife and best friend, Karen Black has just passed away, only a few minutes ago. Thank you all for all your prayers and love, they meant so much to her as they did to me."https://www.facebook.com/stephen.eck...51524884835178 "Karen Black, a versatile actress whose name became virtually synonymous with films that reflected and helped define America in the late 1960s and early 1970s, including “Five Easy Pieces,” died Thursday in Los Angeles. She was 74. A family spokesperon has confirmed her death. Diagnosed with ampullary cancer in 2010, Black had sought help from the public earlier this year to cover the cost of her medical treatment. An appeal by her husband, Stephen Eckelberry, on a crowd-sourcing website raised more than $60,000. Black was born in suburban Park Ridge and went to Northwestern University for two years. She then moved to New York where she first appeared in several off-Broadway productions. Among her most famous movie roles was the pregnant girlfriend of Jack Nicholson's character in "Five Easy Pieces," for which she would receive an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She also played an aspiring actress in "Day of the Locusts" (1976), a country singer in "Nashville" (1975), a sexually confidant lover in "Portnoy's Complaint" (1973) and a kidnapper in Alfred Hitchcock's final film, "Family Plot" (1976)."http://www.chicagotribune.com/entert...,1998067.story |

I recently watched Karen Black in Hitchcock's Family Plot, but I have also been watching the America Lost and Found box set as well, which includes her roles in Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces, and Drive, She Said. Such a sad day!
