Default Ordered my Epson 5030

So I have been all over the place but I finally took the plunge and ordered the 5030 today Should be a nice upgrade over my 8350. Cant wait Ill make sure to post some pics once it is setup. Once I sell my 8350 I will use the money from that to get a new screen as well.

Love Epson's 5030UB! In the under 3K category this is my favorite projector and beats most priced even higher.

Congrats!

How have you had it for that long and not set it up? I think mine will be setup about 30 seconds after having it haha

Have to get a screen. Build a mount and buy black out curtains.

Ah, yeah once it actually arrives I plan to sell my current projector and that will fund a new screen. Going to get a fixed frame this time as my current screen has developed some wrinkles since its just a manual pull down with no tension

Got the projector today, only had time for a couple movies on it

Out of the box the difference in black levels compared to my 8350 is pretty huge, I noticed during a scene change my 8350 always had a greyish tint to it and you could see the screen was lit up, not with the 5030 though. Overall im happy with the PQ although one odd thing I notice is that I seem to be able to see the individual pixels more so now than before (I sit about 8ft away from my 120") not really that big of a deal but I did notice it.

I also notice it is quieter both in fan noise and the auto iris than my 8350 (not that they bothered me before)

Still have to play around with the settings and see what is going to be best.

Only had a couple 3D movies on hand (Iron Man 3 and Prometheus) Always been a skeptic of 3D but it was better than I thought. I will probably look for a few good other 3D movies to try before I really make a commitment on it or not.

Ill post some more updates and screenshots in the coming days

Picked up Titanic, gotta say im pretty impressed this one, I feel like they didn't go crazy overboard with 3d just for the sake of 3d, it really gives a sense of depth to the movie

Try Avatar 3D.

IMHO best of the best, in the world of 3D.

cannot wait to hear your thought on this unit. I have the JVC x500 but I still may get the Epson. Also be sure to read up on AV Science forum as many members at that site give great setup advice. I think they have an "official" thread for your PJ.

not if you can find a JVC RS46 (DILA-X35) for around $2700...which can be done pretty commonly... then not even close

I saw the 5010 and the x30 side by side and I wouldn't say the distance between them is as great as you see it and the reviews I've read of the 5030 and X35 echo that... I'd say if someone is considering both of them they should make every effort to get a demo of them side by side. Personally I don't think you could go wrong with either and if 3D is your thing anything I've read points at the Epson over the JVC.

(I own X30 so I'm not just pumping up the Epson)

I contacted a store here, and they said that the 5030 is a US model, what they have is the EPSON EH-TW9200, which is the European version of the 5030

anyone knows anything about that? I'll research it and look for reviews

anyway, they sell it for $3500 with shipping...

I think I'll order the 5030 from the US, but I'm worried about the shipping price

the x30 and the x35 are rather different. the x35 is solidly better than the x30 with some great improvements in contrast...

don't forget that the x35/sony 50es etc don't really start to shine until you have light control.. the 5030 will have the advantage in a lit or partially lit room but once you darken the walls, control windows and make it a cavern like most people do who spend that type of money then it REALLY starts to shine. the minute you have ambient light in the room all the awesome advantages of the X35 and the Sony LCOS get lost

BUUUUT, the JVC's have a downside with bulb usage being less than the E-Torl's the epson's use and the high cost of replacements..

one of the reasons the 5030 has a definite appeal in

picked up avatar in 3d and that was another solid choice. Having some what I believe to be handshake issues with my projector, umc-200 and my oppo as sometimes I am getting "not supported" on my projector when watching 3d blu-rays.

Also although I watch movies with the lights out, it is nice this projector has enough light output to be able to watch movies decently with the lights on
