Onkel Toms Hutte - English subtitles? - Blu-ray Forum

Another memorable film from my childhood is Onkel Toms Hutte directed by Geza von Radvanyi. It is the best film version of Harriet Stowe's classic Uncle Tom's Cabin and when it was released in theatres in 1965-66, it was dubbed in English. A remastered DVD was released by KSM a few years ago but has no English dubbing audio nor english subtitles.

As far as I know it is not yet out on Blu-ray and i am hoping that the BD will have english subtitles. Does anyone have more information, please?

I can't say much about it in the future, but the KSM-Release stated that it was produced from one of the last existing 35mm copies of the film so audiences should not anticipate usual video and audio standards of the time being...

But that's only what that release stated.

There may be other surviving material and that statement was a marketing-thing or something...

But it is a great film. From what I can remember from 47 years ago, even without subtitles people should understand the general goings on. I still recall some of the dubbed English dialogue - as when the wicked Herbert Lom character frames a poor black worker about the murder that he, Lom, just committed. The enraged crowd then lynch the young black man.

That is probably the saddest and the most disturbing scene that I have seen in over 50 years of watching films. As a boy, it traumatised me a lot.
