Default itunes Digital Copies Question - Upgrade to HD from blu ray

Sorry, I searched and I didn't find anything. I will start off by stating that I don't know much about iTunes, or all the in's and out's. I have though over the years redeemed a few codes through iTunes that were from blu rays. I just looked in my library and noticed that all of these are in SD, and not HD. With UV, I get HD from blu rays. Is there a way to make these be HD?

The titles are:
Back to the Future 1,II, III
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
Marley and Me
Nights in Rodanthe
Nick and Norah's
Puss in Boots
Rio

All of these (except Rio) were redeemed long ago, back before I got into digital copies. I just thought I remember reading something about iTunes upgrading he titles to HD....but maybe not. Is there something I can do, or check/uncheck to get these in HD?

Currently, none of them are downloaded, just showing in my cloud. I don't know if I will ever watch these, as I don't currently have an iDevice, but that could always change, and I would rather get it corrected if possible.

Thank you.

no, as of today there is no easy Upgrade to HD option. the only option is to Purchase the HD.

Well, unless it is a Disney movie (most of them anyway) will be upgraded to HD because that's what Disney wanted.

The reason UV gives HD codes is a Studio thing. UV is more backed by studios and they want to strip the "power" away from Apple/iTunes. the same power that Apple/iTunes had with digital music. And so some studios give out HD for UV and SD for iTunes. Then some don't give iTunes, some give both, etc.

I really wish with Bluray Digital Copies you ALWAYS got HD but that isn't the case. it is a sad, sad thing.

I don't think there's been a single SD code for iTunes for a long, long time now.

I don't think this is accurate. iTunes SD copies long predate UV and subsequently itunes was slower moving to HD copies than UV. Maybe it was Apple's choice, maybe the Studios.

Essentially all new itunes digital copy codes on new releases are HD, although I am sure someone could point out an exception or 2.

So, just curious.... If I had waited to redeem these then I could have received HD? All these are from blu rays, but I redeemed them long ago. Or maybe they would have expired...?

No. The ones you listed are SD only, no way to get HD.

99% of the time if you got a Digital Copy disc in the package then you got an SD iTunes copy as that disc held the file. The XML workaround lets you bypass the disc but you still are only getting SD.

For the most part no - Universal being the one (and inconsistent) exception that I know of. There are some Universal codes that previously redeemed in SD that now redeem in HD and in some cases, some members, were able to get Universal to issue replacement codes (see this thread: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=246251)

However, as steve_dave pointed out...the titles in question are disc-based and therefore SD only.
