I'd consider it an improvement yeah. It's not the greatest, but it's still better than the DVD as expected.

I love this film too. I havn't ordered the Scream Factory release yet (doing that in a few days), but its gotta be worth getting for the artwork alone. Plus, I'm sure the PQ will be good.

By the sounds of it people here are getting confused. The original posted wanted to know if there are any significant differences between the AU and US blus, not dvd.
I'd also like to know because the AU blu is on sale at JB and if it's pretty much the same transfer as the US I'll just buy that. Thanks.

Isn't any Blu-Ray release that isn't distributed by scream factory just a upscale? Because I've seen the Blu-Ray available here in Aus for years but have never bothered with it and have instead stuck with my DVD.

I'm pretty sure the AU release is by StudioChannel which usually have good prints. They released The Howling too which I've heard is thew same print the US used.

Ah ok. I wish caps-a-holic would add the StudioChannel version to their website so we can compare it with the Shout! Factory version, and for kicks the crappy Kinowelt Home Entertainment version as well (which is the upscale I'm talking about.)

I'd really like to see a caps-a-holic comparison too. Sure someone has seen both releases on this board though.

I don't have it so I couldn't tell you. I haven't read anything about it for months, but the last I did read indicated that the U.S version is superior. I've only made a few U.S orders this year, I've been planning to add it to one of my next orders.

I'm hoping someone can post some screen caps at some stage. That'd be helpful

I own both. The US version is superior and most definitely the one to get assuming you can play region A locked discs.

Quality. Much improved in detail, grain handling and colour reproduction. I'll do some screenshots but likely won't have the chance until the weekend.
