Default Amazon/Walmart $8.96 Steelbooks

I saw that Amazon and Walmart both have deals going on a few steelbooks right now such as:

ShawShank Redemption
Green Lantern
Clash of the Titans
Wrath of the Titans
Dark Knight
Batman Begins
V For Vendetta
Hangover Part I and II
Sucker Punch
The Departed
Inception
Book of Eli
Goodfellas
Last Samurai
Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes 2

I think that's it.. My question is now that I have started collecting steelbooks, is it worth it to get ones that I have already in a trilogy set? For instance, I have the Dark Knight Trilogy, Hangover Part I and II (regular blu rays), Sherlock Holmes (regular cases), Goodfellas DigiBook, Inception (regular). I am trying to decide what to do.. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Well if you want to get into collecting steelbooks you already should know the answer. Sell (or keep) the films you already have and get the steelbook versions. I kept special editions or slip covers for certain films (Hellboy 2) and still got the steelbook because the original release was special enough to warrant keeping. Everything else was sold since it didn't make sense to keep the original copy.

So even if I have the entire Dark Knight Trilogy, then I should still get the steelbooks? Do you only collect steels now? I figured I was going to try to just collect movies with slips, trilogy sets, steels, and digibooks.

$9 for these isn't a bad deal, with a few exceptions (the Lord of the Rings steel books), most of these are exactly like the regular case counterparts.

To answer your question, I have the Dark Knight Trilogy steel books and they're exactly the same as the ones currently out, you have to ask yourself whether you want a cool steel book version of your movie or not because everything included is the same, hope this helps!

Just buy it all. If you want to have the SB and keep it sealed do it. Then buy a regualr copy to watch. If you don't have the money for that buy the SB and watch it. Do whatever you want.

Also if you are just starting to get into SB's. Make sure you bring your wallet cause it isn't a cheap hobby.

Also...most of these are at BB (Best Buy) right now so you can also PM them and get RZ points.

This is exactly the reason why I'm so squeamish about starting to collect steel books, I know once I start, I'll have to get them all!

For now, I think I'll stick with my Dark Knight Trilogy & Demons (1 & 2) steel books.

Yeah tell me about it. I started with the Disney ones then it got crazy and now I want them all. It's worse then Pokemon....

But yeah welcome to the fold and good luck on your collecting.

I was gonna bite on the ridiculously priced Demons Steelbook today but when I saw these price drops on these steels, I thought I'd make better use of $46 by getting much better films in The Shawshank Redemption, Inception, Batman Begins, Dark Knight, and The Departed Steelies. That's more bang for my buck in oh so many ways... Oh that and I do recommend The Conjuring Steelbook, which looks like the best steelbook I've ever seen outside of the Cloverfield UK Steelbook.

I'm holding off on the Conjuring steelbook for now because I know WB will eventually release a better version of the film. For now, I'm happy with my Demons steelbooks and their incredible transfers that are more than worth the $90 price for me

A better version? Surely you must mean in terms of special features because there is no alternate cut of the film and the PQ and AQ are already pretty top-notch. Any ways, the steelbook is a limited edition itself so if you're holding off, I'm not sure I'd hold off on it too long unless you really want another feature or two which probably won't be released until after the sequel comes out. Oh well, I'm glad you enjoy your Demons steelbooks as much I'll enjoy the $45 worth of Amazon steelies and The Conjuring Steelbook coming my way. We both win!

Yeah I mean they'll release a special edition version of it eventually like they've been doing for most movies lately, for now I'll stick to my slip covered version I got for $8 at best buy. That's cool that you got them for $45 though, I was lucky enough to get most of them for $5 last year/earlier this year at best buy until I sold off most of them when I realized none of them had inside artwork and felt pretty cheap and just opted for their digibook/standard versions.

Also, I could honestly care less about it being limited, that never affects me whether I should buy a movie or not.

Ouch! That's a lot of double, triple dipping! At the same time, I feel tempted knowing there's so many cool versions of one movie…

And into the rabbit hole I go!

That's just iNSANE!! I am still debating on whether or not to get the Dark Knight and Batman Begins. Is there a good price on a Dark Knight Rises steelbook to match? I currently have that trilogy and would like to replace with all of the steels.

I was just getting opinions on what other people are doing in situations where they already own certain movies and/or trilogies, etc.....

Generally i had been buying a slip cover version and a steelbook version of films. Also i'll always go for the 3D release when available. Id then get rid of the discs from the lesser version(ie. if a version had lesser specs than the other). Having said that slips are now becoming less creative(fewer lenticular designs) so im now tending to go down the path of Steelbook only. Disney releases are my biggest issue as they are asking such high prices for their titles post release. Perfect example is Iron Man 3. Its still at $35 odd which is way to high and didnt even see a drop at BF sales. Would like the slip but cant justify it at that price. Ever since their buy up of major studios they seem to be charging much higher prices than most other studios. Fox and paramount have the right idea regarding 3D release selling them at approx 25 and below on release. Disney needs to take page from these guys.

But as these guys have already said, be prepared to spend up as SB collecting is a very expensive hobby.Thankfully its my only one.
