That's it.

I think it's pretty anticlimatic myself simply because I had thought they'd been on board this whole time anyways.

Hell, I've been hearing about Java support with BD for months.

*shrugs*

I agree. If this was the "key partner" announcement...this is pretty lame. Ditto on thinking Sun was already on the board. Ah well, at least we have movies utilizing the MPEG4 codec!

Maybe a rhetorical figure (pleonasm) like "black crow" or "white milk"...

Nah I doubt this is the "key partner". Having Sun onboard officially is important but the key partner has to be a strategic ally. Someone totally new...*cough* Universal *cough*

Really boring for Hollywood fans but for IT professionals it may be a good news.

Stop being a "codec nazi!"

Like you and I just said in another thread:

We've all known that Sun was tied to BR with Java, but this is news in the sense that that they are now official members of the board.

I figured they were already a member, since java-bd was being used.

I agree it's underwhelming, and the news doesn't mean much for the consumer. However on the industry side there's a lot of weight to it. When you look at the influence of all voting board members of bluray, they dwarf the board of hddvd, and they now have all the interrelated industries (studios, consumer electronics, computer, semiconductors, software) versus only the patent holders.

All true but again: Isn't this complete non news? We've all been reading about Java support for BD for MONTHS now.

This is much ado about absolutely nothing from where I sit.

This is like a "sky is blue" memo or something...
