This will be a blind purchase for me. If it's anything like the original then I'll probably keep it.

Only saw this cuz I was lucky enough to get the original BD with movie cash for the remake. Hated nearly every second of it. Not even gonna put it the library list. Look for Detroit cameoing as Seattle though, that was my favorite part being from the area. If on the fence, get the original which holds up well. I thought it was a senseless remake that brought nothing to the table and lost most of the good stuff from the first, but that is just my opinion. Not trying to talk anyone out of it, I firmly believe everyone should make their own choices. I'd just recommend renting first, esp. if a fan of the original. My girl felt the same way and the original is on her top 10 of all time.

I hope it comes with slip.

I liked this movie but I wish they toned down the shaky cam at times.

was wondering if it was any good or not. the trailers didn't look too great and when i heard of some of the changes they made, i didn't feel the urge to go and see it.

I grew up loving the first film. Even though it came out a few years before I was born when I was around 5 or 6 I remember watching it with my older siblings and it scaring/fascinating me to no end.

Didn't get a chance to see the remake in theaters because of work and holiday traveling, but I will be picking this up day 1, despite the lackluster reviews by many.

They sure are. It'll be even funnier if they are actually the same names as the features on the original.

Saw this at the $2 theater tonight. It was alright. I wouldn't mind getting this for around $10 or so.

This will be a rental for me.

I took my old DVD of the original Red Dawn to Best Buy yesterday for the Upgrade & Save, and used that coupon to buy the same movie on Blu-ray.

I saw the original Red Dawn when it was first released in theaters when I was twelve years old. I know that this may sound funny to everyone reading this thread, but the movie really scared the hell out of me back then.

I love pulling the original off the shelves a couple times a year for nostalgia's sake. It's a lot of fun in that good old 1980s way, but people have forgotten how serious those days were when the Cold War was still going on and we actually wondered about stuff like that really happening. I'm looking forward to seeing the original movie in high definition for the first time. In fact, I'll probably watch it tonight.

The trailers for the new movie look fun. It's just a cool story that begs for a new interpretation ever so often, even if it's just popcorn movie fare.

I can beleive that - it was similar for me. i didn't see it in the theaters but even on tv, that opening is scary as hell. the invasion comes out of nowhere and that is unusual for a movie. they whole film is played out in a semi-realistic style so it is a little unnerving to watch. I think that might be the issue with modern movies - they try and use thinks like the shaky-cam to make you feel like you are in the middle of the action but all it does it annoy people and cause motion sickness. step back to that 3rd person point of view and let people see what is going on and you will get a better reaction.

The original is one of my all-time favorite movies. I've watched it more times than I can count.

Still, I thought this version was pretty good- good enough to be part of my collection. Not as good as the original, but I can see myself watching it more than once. I'll be picking it up the week of release, but probably with SK and RZ certs.

I was 13 at the time, went to go see this at the theater and it had the same effect. Invasion or nuclear war felt like real threats back then, so it did work and work well. I think the timing is part of why I didn't care for the redo. I could see China coming over and being a problem then or now. North Korea? Feel free to try fools, anytime!

i advise everyone to rent this first. If you think it deserves a purchase after that than you must've found some well hidden inspiration in there somewhere and you're a better man for it.

Thanks for mentioning the shaky cam. No longer a day one buy for me. Nothing I hate more than shaky cam, it makes me get motion sick. Not to mention that it makes it so you can't see/enjoy the action in action movies.

Hey, I don't blame you for being scared. It certainly tapped into the fears generated by the Cold War atmosphere of the time.

I never saw the original, but this one was pretty good. Had some pretty good action and a few "hell yeah" moments. The vets they meet later on were absolutely hillarious.

The acting was really well done, almost too good for the movie. I still can't believe Josh Peck was in it. I didn't notice that at all. Of course, I'm still thinking of the chubby kid from Drake and Josh. He's much more tolerable when he's not trying to be overly sarcastic and wacky most of the time.
