Default Is it over for Clint Eastwood?

Clint's movies have start Ed going downhill and Trouble with the Curve was not that good so I will have to say yes. His directing style has gotten very dull IMO.

He didn't direct 'Trouble with a curve'... he was doing that for a promise.

I agree that his movies haven't been perfect lately however I think that is more due to the scripts and in some cases, acting, that we have seen...

Clint's eye for detail still remains the same from what I can see.

Default Yes..

As far as I'm concerned, Hell Yes.

And, he should keep his political beliefs in his personal life, like he used to. Someday that empty chair he spoke to will be his Director's Chair.

Yeah, I said it.

Yeah, I said it.
Yeah, only you didn't know why.
The "Empty chair" bit was his attempt at imitating the rightwing equivalent of Mort Sahl's old monologues, but if you didn't recognize that, the Republicans didn't either.
And instead, "Empty chair" went on to become one of this year's anti-Republican buzzwords, along with "Big Bird" and "Horses and bayonets".

As for acting, he's TRYING to do movies where his character is supposed to be eighty years old, but they can't keep him down yet.
Still, it doesn't help that his rebellious-oldster characters in Curve and Gran Torino have us worrying about senility...

Never said I didn't recognize that. I did say after all these years he could have kept that in his private life. Don't like that. Makes thoughts of individuals change sometimes, when they reveal where they stand, in that regard.

Here's an Academy role awaiting him:

Old Man River.

His last few movies definitely dont have the penache that Unforgiven,Pale Rider,Outlaw Josey Wales, Play Misty for Me had.

Hereafter was very mehh, Invictus was good but not represented of the Eastwood films I always think of, Freeman was stellar as usual. J. edgar was a good try but that fell very short, despite good acting.

I thoroughly enjoyed Gran Torino and Trouble With the Curve was worth watching, granted I know he was only acting not double duty like usual

The most recent one for me is Gran torino which I think is a very good film, after that I' not so sure but G.T. wasn't that long ago,Spielberg and a few others I can think of haven't done any better.

He had a slight hiccup with J Edgar but I thought that, although slow and uninspired, it was a perfectly good period piece and, as stated, his eye for detail and framing remains as great as always. Hereafter was a great film, with a superb performance from Matt Damon - directing was off a tad in certain scenes, but it was a brilliant and thought-provoking drama.

Basically, nah, he's an amazing director and he will continue to be; his work has to be among the most consistent of all directors, and his personal issues shouldn't even factor into his professional work. I just hope the next project he chooses will be right for him and suit his style.

Regardless if his career is on a downslide or not, throughout his career he has starred in and directed many classic films. He gets a lifetime pass from me for Unforgiven alone.

Talking

No, don't say that .

Clint Eastwood is the best actor and director in the world .

He has played many different characters, but you have to watch all his movies.
He did play in a lot of Westerns, but also in some War movies. Some of my favorite Eastwood movies are:

Western:
- The Good, The Bad and the Ugly
- For A Few Dollars More
- A Fistful of Dollars
- Unforgiven
- Rawhide (Series)
- The Outlaw Josey Wales
- High Plains Drifter

War:
- Where Eagles Dare (remember this one? )
- Kelly's Heroes
- Heartbreak Ridge
- Letters From Iwo Jima (best war movie of the 2000's! )

Other:
- Gran Torino (one of the best movies of the 2000's)
- Million Dollar Baby (one of the best movies of the 2000's)
- A Perfect World
- Honkytonk Man
- Of course ALL Dirty Harry movies

A true classic:
- Escape from Alcatraz (when will this one come out on blu-ray? )

Outlaw Josey Wales is a really good Western .

I was also looking for a thread about Gene Hackman, I read that he had beaten up an aggressive homeless man . Something to do with defending his wife.

yeah I too think that it is over for him. Despite of his fans, he is no more engaged in making films having some extra concept... So, sorry for him.

I'd like to see him go back to the western director's chair and revive a lost genre.

I totally agree and not to star in but to direct one great western film. One that would hopefully spark that genre back to life in some form or another.
