Question Ultraviolet questions

A handful of questions for the knowledgable UV folks here.
  • I have two UV accounts: one primary, one alternate.
  • I accidentally redeemed a code in the Flixster/UV alt-account instead of my primary account.
  • The code was Flixster/UV and not VUDU (HBO Select).
  1. Can I merge the two UV accounts to effectively transfer the code to my primary account? Does this screw up Flixster?
  2. If merging works, will I be able to recreate the UV alt-account using the same e-mail address (and relink to Flixster)? Or will it be unavailable for reuse?
  • My son has his own VUDU/UV account.
  • My son and I would like to share our tiny collections with each other.
  • My parents don't use any UV service yet, but I would like them to be able to watch our purchases at their leisure.
  • My parents are not sophisticated and will not be making purchases.
  1. Can my son and I 'link' UV accounts or do we have to create separate credentials for each other?
  2. Can we link multiple UV accounts to a single VUDU or link multiple VUDU/UV accounts together?
  3. Should my parents create their own VUDU/UV accounts or 'piggyback' on my primary account somehow?
I don't use UV that much so any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can merge your primary and alternate UV accounts. The alternate account will become a sub-account of your primary account. You can use this to link to another vudu account, or you can delete it. If you delete it, I believe you could create another UV account with that e-mail, but what would be the point. You can do the same with your sons UV account. He can then link his sub-account to his own vudu, flixster, or other service's account. I have done several merges, so I know this works.

Thanks. Great info. That completely answered my first two questions, but maybe you could clarify a bit for me.

I would merge my son's account into mine, making a sub-account. I can also create a new sub-account for my parents.

My son would relink his UV sub-account on VUDU. Now he can see/watch movies from all the UV accounts (mine, his, my parents) through VUDU or another provider.

If he makes a purchase/redemption, does it get tagged as his or mine in UV? Can he un-merge his sub-account to a new primary UV account in the future if he so chooses? I suppose I have the same questions if I had a sub-account for my g/f or sister & BIL. It would be nice to share but if they permanently lose some options, I don't want to do that.

Can I link a VUDU account to multiple UV accounts and if so, how? Would that make it possible to not have to merge UV accounts?

If a sub-account makes a purchase, or D2D transaction, the movie gets added to the shared account, it does not get tagged a certain way. Once you merge an account, there is no way to undo it, or seperate them in the future. Your son could create a new UV account, but it would not add any of the movies purchased from vudu to that new UV account. Maybe in the future they will add a feature to let you send movies from one account to another. They most likely will because congress is looking at making laws to force companies to let people gift digital assets to their heirs.

It is not possible to link a single vudu account to more than one UV account. Also, if you unlink your vudu account, and then try to link it to a new UV account, thinking it will add your vudu movies to that second UV account, it will not.

That's too bad, that puts a real damper on UV's usefulness for me. I can set one up for my parents. They should predecease me and they won't have a need to move to their own separate account ever. But if items can't be untangled later then nobody else in my family can really use the feature. I guess I'm missing the usefulness of sub-accounts entirely.

Thanks for addressing my issues. You've been a big help.
