Default I don't like PS Plus

Hey,

Honestly, I love Sony and always consider them whenever I purchase just about anything. Esp my projector, Blu Ray players, and PS3.

I don't like PS Plus though and it seems they really want to push it on me. I just got an email about it. Really seems they think everyone needs to be giving them money every month for PSPlus. It's even required now on the Ps4 if you want to play online.

I had plus before free and that was fine but I don't like subcribing to stuff in general.

Also, I have about 30 games that I need to try to find time for so I wouldn't be getting to them much if I had a month to try 4 or 5 other games.

And, How would I feel when games I spent good money on show up as suddenly free... feels bad man.

Plus just sux. that's all I thought I would rant a bit about it.

-Brian

PS Plus was awesome for me when I had to send my PS3 in and all of my Saved Data on my games stayed in-tact. The discounts, free PSN games, etc. are also quite awesome to have too. As for games you bought in retail, you shouldn't worry about it. You have a nice physical copy of the game to play with which is worth the price you paid for it. (I try to avoid games that I may get disappointed with, so I usually always end up with games I would enjoy with maybe only a couple or so letdowns).

Well what other option is out there? Compare it to Live, it's cheaper, offers way more in terms of games and stuff, has loads of discounts, etc.

Not to mention you could have bought a years worth of Plus for $30 on Amazon a couple weeks ago. That's 57 cents a week. I've saved hundreds of dollars worth of full games played (and platted many of them like Sleeping Dogs, Remember Me, Hitman Absolution, Infamous 2, Deus Ex, Saints Row 3, Dragon's Dogma, Gravity Rush, Uncharted Golden Abyss, Hotline Miami, Rayman Origins, and Resogun) That's just games from this year, not mentioning I easily saved around 30-50 in dlc and discounts from other purchases.

If you honestly don't see the value in Plus and think it sucks, I think you're just being unfair to Sony and have unrealistic expectations tbh.

I'm not thrilled about paying for PS+, but I went ahead and got 2 cards when they were on sale on black friday for $30 each to be set for a couple of years.

My biggest issue with it is the way the free games work. I don't like that you don't get to keep them if you let your PS+ membership expire, and they don't give you the option to pay outright for them if you are a PS+ member while they are free..... and if you download them while free, you never get the option to pay for them while being a PS+ member.

I know this complaint may seem odd to some people, but my issue is this. Let's say game X is put out by some 3rd party company, and it is a title based on a property that this 3rd party company licensed from another company. And it is put up for free on PS+. If I download it for free, then for the duration of my PS+ membership (which is now just over 2 years including the free month that came with PS4), I don't even get the option to pay for it to download it and "keep" it. During the course of those two years, this 3rd party company loses the license to that property and can no longer sell the game.

Now even if I let my PS+ membership lapse at the end of the two years, resulting in my losing access to that game, I have no way of paying for it to keep it under all conditions. Sure, given that PS+ is required for online play, I'll probably be keeping it active for the duration of the PS4's life. But one day Sony will no longer support the PS4 and network connectivity with the system will go away (mind you this is also a concern with the PS3, and one that will rear it's head much sooner than with the PS4). Now I won't be able to re-establish my PS+ membership on the console and play that game ever again.

I do think the free games are a nice benefit. I just think that they should give PS+ members the option to actually pay for the game at any time (whether they downloaded the game for free already or not) if they want to have it without the PS+ restrictions.

For this reason, I pretty much refuse to download any "free" games unless they are games that I can buy on a disc. Since I will always opt for a physical copy where possible, I wouldn't mind using free PS+ versions as a way to test out the games before buying them. But for anything available as digital only... no thanks, I'll be passing and waiting until I can pay for it outright if I really want it.

Playstation Plus is one of the best things to happen to the PS3. I've played so many games, some I might have overlooked otherwise, and gotten so many great discounts that it makes it easily worth the money. And they just had it for $30, making the bang for your buck just insane.

As a person who just finished converting everything over to the Playstation family, I can tell you PS Plus is waaaay better that XBL.

I have PS Vita - PS3 - PS4

And for me, the value is unbeatable. You maximize your benefits when you have the whole family. I probably will never go back to Xbox. And PS plus is one of the reasons why (among many others)

Sorry you arent enjoying it. I think its a great deal.

Sorry you feel that way OP.I felt the same way until the PS4. Since I will want online play for the duration of my PS4 lifespan, it just makes sense. Thanks to Black Friday I am set for 4 years now. Whether I get to keep the free games or not is irrelevant since I have plenty of time to play them. And, at $3/month, it's nothing to really scoff at considering I'll be getting AT LEAST 1 free game a month to enjoy + access to my favourite MP content for disc based games.

It really doesn't make sense to hate on something as trivial when it is instrisically so valuable.

Well,

It's ok if I'm the only one who doesn't like it.

I didn't like it when they started it. Then, when it became more of a requirement with PS4 that bothered me also... but such it is.

My thing is I buy instead of rent and all the plus stuff is rented pending continued membership in plus.

I just don't like to subscribe to something I wouldn't make the most use of.

Like I said,... over the 6 years I've had the PS3 I gathered about 30 games. I just gave a few away because someone in my family got a PS3 for his Bday and I knew I had too many to ever get caught up on.

So,.. the free ones and the time trails and all that ... just doesn't appeal to me.

Which is fine... I do think multiplayer on PS4 should have remained free but they must have crunched the numbers and realized M$ had a good idea there.

Actually, I think that the non-free online gameplay has more to do with being able to better subsidize the maintenance aspects of the PSN. It takes a lot of man hours and labour costs to upkeep firmware, network software, network hardware, etc, etc, etc.

I see your point but for my tastes (which obviously are unique to me) I get 24 ps3 games (perhaps one day more ps4 games) for less than the price of one. Sure about half of them are little PSN titles but quite a few aren't.

I just can't justify NOT having plus. Maybe if I were a hardcore gamer and repeatedly played games years after they were released it would be different.

I was in love with Plus back when I just had a PS3. Now that I have a Vita and a PS4 as well, I think Plus is an obscenely amazing deal. Sucks if you don't want to pay for online, I hear ya. But for someone like me that has been a subscriber for various other reasons, it makes no difference. I bought a bunch during the Black Friday sale, and now I'm paid up for the next 5 years or something.

Well,.... it's certainly wonderfull how if you have multiple Playstation platforms it packs even more value... I have to say that part is certainly terrific.

I used to have a PSPGO but I lost it (think it got stolen) .. I would be tempted to pick up the vita or PS4 ... but my real problem is making time for gaming and that goes back to why I don't really like plus.

PS+ is a godsend for me. I've only been a member for about 4 or 5 months, but so far the amount of quality content is pretty numerous. And the discounts! I've made back my money on those alone. I can't imagine not being without it now. Good thing I took advantage of that Black Friday deal.

everyone has a right to their opinion but I honestly cant see how anyone can dislike Plus. The free games and cloud saves make it well worth it. IGN did a breakdown of the 1 year anniversary of IGC and it amounted to 64 games with a value of over $1000. Yes $1000! All it took was an entrance fee of $50/yr (and its been on sale so many times for $40, which made this even sweeter). Even if you never play half of those games, with 64, there's bound to be alot of content there for you to appreciate and take advantage of.

And of course there's also the discounts. Saving 50% on top of a sales price makes games and DLC so much more affordable. The only negative I could see with the service is that you have to pay, but that is negated by how much you save with it. It pays for itself

I think the OP was mostly griping about his own personal negative feelings when a game goes free, some time after he paid good money for it, whether full price or discounted. I can empathize with that, I guess, but in a sense, it's like hating a teacher or professor who on the day of an exam, announces that it's delayed a week. You hate her, because you were prepared, but it's actually quite a good deal for most.

Well,

Consider there is a game I've been looking for a deal on ... for example Sega All Stars Racing Transformed and I only find it new (no used) locally for $40!

Then, I see it's free on PSPlus...

But,... it's not free... I just have to be a PSPlus member for life... that's not free.

Everyone is different and we all have different attachment to games I suppose. Since the Ps4 came out I've made an effort to go back to game I already own and finish them sort of to get caught up.

Like I said... I prefer to buy instead of rent. But, renting stuff that someone decides I rent is worse. Plus it's all stuff that basically failed to make it on it's own.

How many copies of Contrast would have sold retail for Ps4 ... not enough... give it away and let people think they got a deal...

Rather than having too many "free" low quality games some of which I may not even like, I prefer to buy what I want to play.

Simple as that really.... The other thing is I have a hard time making time for video games. A hour of video games tends to put me a week behind in chores like magic. For me plus would be like drinking from a fire hose.

Wow. Really? Not only is this inaccurate, I have to scratch my head whenever someone brings up this logic. Plus offerings are all stuff that failed to make it on their own? Uncharted 3 is a failure? It was only one of the BEST selling Sony published games when it was released. Titles like Batman Arkham City, Assassin's Creed III, Borderlands 2, Resident Evil 5, Super Street Fighter IV, Bioshock 2, Saints Row 3, LittleBigPlanet 2 etc... are all failures? In what world?

Also, not every offering needs to be some high selling AAA title. In fact I prefer when they are not. Think about it. One complaint you had in your opening post was that you buy a game and then it ends up free on Plus. I dont know about you, but Id prefer for them to put up critically acclaimed games that likely didnt sell well and if thats the case, I probably didnt buy it. The high selling AAA titles are games that most people will have potentially owned already. I appreciated when they had stuff like Hitman up as I wouldnt have touched it otherwise. Luckily Plus offers a good mix of those high selling games as well as ones which didnt recieve as much attention.

PS plus is a good deal you can find a lot of games that have money off for PS+ members or even limited times when games are free. Whether that will change as people are required to get PS+ only time will tell.

Sounds like your major gripe is your own time constraints (which sucks). So, knowing you don't have much time to play games, it's better to sit on a physical copy of a game that you will have forever instead of using PS+ for a year then not being able to play those games unless you subscribe again. However, what if you got robbed? Just saying End of the day, PS+ is a good deal no matter what (discounts heavily make up for not liking or wanting to play any of the free games because you'll get to keep those games you got a discount on even after your sub expires, though, the whole "PSN won't be alive for PS3 in 10 years" debate comes up, but that's another discussion). Just sounds like you really don't have much time to play games at all (again, which sucks).
