This isn't a thread about bad movies you liked or movies you thought were going to be bad but turned to good. What movie came out that was bad but turned out to be a good thing for the series, director, actor, etc?
The obvious one is Batman & Robin. While it killed of that series of movies, it was a blessing in disguise. At that point, Batman had been played by 3 actors in 4 movies so there was a lack of consistency there. The tone was getting lighter and lighter and things were starting to get over the top - the Batmobile for example. As well, by that time all the top villains had already been used so it was getting harder to come up with a story that would grab the audience. Everything seemed to hit on that movie and it crashed and burned. However it did force the studio to look at Batman differently and we got the Nolan movies which were very successful. Had Batman & Robin been somewhat successful, it never would have happened. Other movie? Remember, it could be a movie that got someone discovered, led to better things for the director. etc - it just has to be a bad movie. Don't want to hear how Nightmare on Elm Street helped Johnny Depp get noticed! |

The Star Wars Prequels, in that they were enough to finally get people off the Altar of George.

One Missed Call - killed the jhorror remake trend. NONE of the jhorror remakes were good, but finally one came out that NO ONE liked.

I couldn't think of any better way to say it without making the title a paragraph in itself
![]() One more that kind of works is Catwoman. I think had it been successful in any way, we would have seen a lot of these spinoff movies that really don't have any reason to be made. While a lot of these characters are interesting, most are not interesting without the main person. I think Catwoman bombing showed that not every character can spinoff their own film, especially when you start screwing around with the source material. Of course that seems to be changing again as they want to do a bunch of Marvel spinoffs. |
