Vice Principals Season 2 not coming to Blu-ray? (HBO taking a cue from Fox?) - Blu-ray Forum

I saw that Season 2 of Vice Principals is being packaged with Season 1 as a "DVD only" release. This is really odd. HBO has almost always released series on Blu-ray and they released Season 1 on Blu. Hopefully they haven't announced Season 2 on Blu yet and will closer to the date.

I know HBO released a DVD "Complete Series" set of "Eastbound" but also released a stand-alone Season 4 Blu so I'm holding out hope they announce a Season 2 Blu of "Vice Principals". For all the comedy shows to not release on Blu, this one is a head scratcher. It's got amazing cinematography and direction as opposed to something like "Curb" and "Veep" that are great comedies but pretty bland when it comes to how they look.

I recently wrote to HBO kindly asking if they could release their now 15-years-old Angels in America on blu-ray, and this news has me thinking they probably laughed (or maybe just scoffed) at my letter harder than I already suspected.

As sad as this is, it’s not a sign of anything happening to physical media. HBO did the same with Enlightened, Togetherness and Getting on after offering previous seasons on blu. It’s likely due to low sales and the fact that these are half-hour comedy shows.

We should expect to see most of their other shows continue to get blu-ray releases.

Ugh. This again. People have been saying this for a decade and guess what, it isn’t. Just because some hbo show is t getting a blu release doesn’t indicate anything about physical media dying.

In the UK HBO released 4 seasons of Veep and 2 seasons of Silicon Valley, before canning future blu-ray releases and going DVD only. Luckily picked up my missing seasons of each show cheap on Black Friday. What is annoying about Vice Principals us season 2 is the final season, so why not release it on Blu-ray?
I've finally accepted that some shows will never get a blu-ray release, so have started to buy them digital through Google Play

The show was never very popular to begin with and was canceled due to low viewership numbers. I think it's less "the sky is falling" and more simple economics.

The show also wasn't very good.

CAnceled? Do your freaken research. It was always meant to be 2 seasons. Viewership wise it did fine and critically well in season 2. It just wasnt mainstream.

And lastly it was very good.

It just another Danny McBride "look at how obnoxious I can be" series. If you have Walton Goggins and Bill Murray on your show, don't waste them for the purposes of your own ego.

And seeing how Eastbound and Down lasted four seasons for some reason, HBO certainly hoped for more than two seasons. These are the same people who gave six seasons to Girls and thought Togetherness would take off.

Except you didnt watch the show because you wouldnt say that. And 2 again stop speaking out of your ass, Mcbride made the decision for 2 seasons long before the pickup and the show was completed before season 1. Mcbride has an open contract from HBO to do whatever they want including more shows so you have no idea what youre saying.

Hoping doesnt mean canceled. Smdh.

Eastbound and Down frequently got on my nerves, but still a good show. Vice Principals was absolutely genius. I am going to be disappointed if there is no Blu-ray option, but not extremely surprised.

If people haven't figured it out, HBO considers many of their physical releases as little more than P.R. and marketing to advertise a show's existence to potential HBO subscribers. Once a show is canceled, they have far less incentive to promote a home video release considering the declining sales of today.

It's one way HBO is combating the glut of scripted content in the crowded cable and streaming universe.
