It truly boggles my mind that there are still people hoping or thinking HD-dvd will win.

Even though the sales ranks are pretty low they have a lot of WB titles as their top sellers. There weren't too many Wb titles up there for Blu, but the sales ranks could still be higher. I hope all the WB titles crush theirs.

Im with you I don't get it either. They have Shrek and that Born movie and they aren't exactly selling like Transformers was. Hey they can always lower their HD-DVD players to $99.00 when all else fails. Oh wait they all ready did that. |

compare the sales rank of the Warner Bros. blu-rays to HD-DVDs and you will see blu-ray rankings are higher.

Joon's potentially right. If blu doesn't completely smash HD DVD "soon," this will play into Microsoft's hand, whose intent is to create a stalemate until their movie download service thing takes off.
But that's a big if. Microsoft has tried many different things that have failed, and this could be yet another. However, the general public is obviously quite used to downloads now (with iTunes, et al), it'll depend on if there's a good enough infrastructure in place to handle it. And let's not forget cable/satellite and video-on-demand and movie channels. The masses may decide they don't need to buy (or rent) a physical disc anymore when they can just rent it over their cable. I'm sure there are quite a few people out there with HDTVs who have no plan or desire to buy a high-def player of any kind. They're getting everything they want piped right into their house already. |

There is one reason and one reason only why HD DVD is still is around. They prey on customer ignorance and price to stay in the game.
I guess if there was a second reason is due to the fact that some B & M stores have hd fanboys ( Sony haters) working there and don't give the consumer all the facts. I personally seen employees pitch the most ridicules lines and blant lies. The best one is a guy who never even mentioned that there where two formats just "attempted" to put a Toshiba in the cart. Of course I had to open my mouth and it became quite obvious that I was better informed than the employee. After giving facts on both sides the guy bought a PS3 80 gig. I am sure the fact I was a female and was leading the guy on also had some influence. lol Hey what ever it takes to beat them |

The masses are ignorant--Toshiba is retarded--Sony haters refuse blu out of pure spite--but the studios... The one thing I can not understand is; why can't Universal and Paramount see the big picture? Blu rays prices are competitive, the market is there. Blu ray is much more future proof than hd dvd. WAKE UP! At this point it makes 1000 times more sense to support blu. Better software sales and consumer choice. We have so many more CE companies developing players which will in turn drive the prices down... it just seems too easy to me... of course, that may be why i'm not a CEO at a major movie studio--I'm too smart for the damn job...

I live in NZ and to be honest there is no way Microsoft's download service would take off here for many years! Our telecommunications just wouldn't handle it and with the costs we pay for our service it would prob cost more per movie (if you downloaded a Hi-Def movie) than it would to import a blu from the US which i currently do... I just cant see this taking off at all - i think the majority of people still want a hard copy on a disc, and i cant see this changing
