Default Movies from 1995-2005 that are yet to get a Blu Ray release

It's amazing how many of the well-regarded movies from this decade are yet to see the light of day on Blu-Ray in the US. I am not talking about obscure indies but somewhat mainstream movies (OK they are not blockbusters) that won various awards and were reasonably popular in general. I have listed only my personal favorites but I am sure my list of just the tip of the iceberg.

Before Sunrise (1995) - rumored Criterion release ?
Sense and Sensibility (1995)
Affliction (1997)
Gosford Park (2001)
Mulholland Drive (2001) - rumored Criterion release ?
About Schmidt (2002) - out 02/03
Far From Heaven (2002) - Canadian release available but may be OOP
21 Grams (2003) - Canadian release available
Matchstick Men (2003)
Before Sunset (2004) - rumored Criterion release ?
A Very Long Engagement (2004)
Constant Gardener (2005) - out 01/06

Wow. 21 Grams still hasn't been given the release on Blu-ray in US? That's crazy.

Brick is another big omission.

Few more:

Thank You For Smoking

Idiocracy

Ghost World

American Splendor

Abre Los Ojos

A Simple Plan

etc.

Why limit it to just '95 onwards? Two of the biggest ones that most of us want are True Lies and The Abyss, both just barely pre-95.

For those within the given timeline, I'd personally love to see these on Blu-Ray:
  • Atilla (unlikely to happen)
  • Battlefield Earth (yes, I said it)
  • A Bittersweet Life
  • Bringing Out the Dead
  • Cabin By the Lake (extremely unlikely to happen)
  • Dancer in the Dark (I'm hoping a Criterion release would be possible)
  • Das Experiment
  • Evolution
  • Funny Games 1997
  • Memories
  • Memories of Murder (I know there's a Korean import availalbe but we can't all pay $70 for it)
  • Panic Room
  • Primer
  • The Rage: Carrie 2
  • Storm of the Century (unlikely)
  • Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

Bed of Roses (1999)
Bicentennial Man (1999)
Dune (TV Movie - 2000)
Children of Dune (TV Movie - 2003)
Little Nicky (2000)
The New Guy (2002)
Three to Tango (1999)
A Walk to Remember (2002)

And these are just movies that are from my DVD collection, I know I can probably list another 15-20...

The Whole Nine Yards (2000)
The Whole Ten Yards (2004)

These two quickly come to mind

Good call on those.

I'd love it if the Dune and Children of Dune miniseries were released, but it seems increasingly unlikely to happen. I know there's a French edition for Children of Dune, but I think it has forced subs or something. There's a German one too, but it appears to be region-locked.

You forgot one which is pretty much top of my list of 'why isnt this on blu-ray yet?!' films -

Solaris (2002). This film could look and sound amazing on blu. And yes I prefer it to the overrated yawnfest original!

The French versions of both releases are 1080i from what I read, the forced subs would not surprise me either The German releases on the other hand are 1080p, but I can't seem to find a single review on either release about the PQ. Even of they were 3.5 or better PQ wise I'd gladly buy them, region locked or not, it would give me the excuse to finally pull the trigger and get a region free player.

I don't see a US release for either coming any time soon.

But it lacks the theme of the original, weird and often dragged out as it was, the whole premise of Eternity is completely lost in the remake.

These are hardly what I would call mainstream movies at least from a US point of view. I got tired of waiting for them and got them (along with Chaser) directly from S. Korea via Ebay. I paid a little more for each than I would pay for a typical Twilight Time title but it was well worth it. The Korean editions are nicely packaged and have great picture and sound quality (very nice English subs too).

I have my eyes on a few more Korean titles including A Dirty Carnival, Thirst, etc which are also available from Korea via Ebay.

Ah sorry, I forgot you asked specifically for the mainstream titles.

I might go that route too, if all else fails. I do have the UK copy of Thirst, which I can play in my region-free player. It's a good one.
