Default Movies Where Soundtrack Played a Big Role

I am talking soundtracks NOT scores.

The 2 in my head currently are:

Miami Vice - Great made greater by music selection.

Watchmen - Had heard all the songs plenty of times, but they were used so well, particularly The Sound of Silence.

Apocalypse Now also comes to mind.

Predator, Back To The Future, Star Wars, Jaws, Trainspotting. I'm not sure if it were predator or BTF, however one of the directors asked Silvestri to make the score deliberately "big" as they were worried about the scale of the film.

There are a few outstanding tracks on the Miami Vice soundtrack.

Magnolia integrates a lot of Aimee Mann's music into the narrative.
.

A movie that is only a great soundtrack is Vanilla Sky. I felt it squandered the dramatic potential of the story (the Spanish original is very effective though)

Agree with Tarantino, and will add Martin Scorsese to the mix. And, if classical music counts, Kubrick.

Other good films with effective soundtracks:

Adventures in Babysitting
Animal House
Apocalypse Now!
Austin Powers trilogy
Back to the Future trilogy
Beverly Hills Cop
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
Blade trilogy
The Blues Brothers
The Breakfast Club
Caddyshack
Charlie's Angels and Charlie's Angels Full Throttle
Christine
Control
The Cowboy Bebop: The Movie
The Crow (sequels use some cool music too)
Donnie Darko
Drive
Dumb and Dumber
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Gamer
Ghostbusters I and II
Go
Gone in 60 Seconds remake
The Good, the Bad, and the Weird
The Goonies
The Graduate
Heat
Heavy Metal and Heavy Metal 2000
Kick-Ass
A Knight's Tale
Labyrinth
Layer Cake
The Matrix
Megamind
Miami Vice
Mortal Kombat
127 Hours
Real Steel
Revenge of the Nerds
Slumdog Millionaire
Something Wild
Stand By Me
Stir of Echoes
Sucker Punch
Swordfish
10 Things I Hate About You
Both Tomb Raider movies
Top Gun
Trainspotting
Vacation
Watchmen
Weird Science
xXx
Zoolander

Kubrick mostly used existing music in all of his films.

The music was one of the things I liked about the movie. I even have the soundtrack on CD.
