Just once I would like to hear "Comcast and Time Warner Cable going to be split up into smaller non-monopolistic companies."

The difference between this and the AT&T-T-Mobile purchase is that Comcast and Time Warner don't compete in any markets, so they aren't direct competitors. This will still be heavily-scrutinized and if regulators approve it they will have a lot of demands similar to when Comcast bought NBC, and the company will likely need to sell off some of the combined company's territories to ensure they don't have more than 30% of the nation's cable market, which is the limit. One thing that could help the cable companies is the FCC's new chairman Tom Wheeler is a former cable lobbyist who previously supported the AT&T-T-Mobile deal.

Comcast is actually not that expensive, at least where I am at now in Miami.
I am actually looking at TWC now that I am moving to North Carolina next week and it's actually quite expensive. So Comcast would seem like the better option. I just wish I had ATT Uverse in my area, that was a good service when i had it for a little while, it just got to expensive. |

ISP's need to figure out this capping stuff... with all of the streaming HD video now... Netflix... devices connected to WI-FI... The average everyday internet user may not care about the caps, but there is a handful of people who do... Grrr... |

I don't see it really making much of a difference. It's not like it's eliminating consumer choice somehow. It may give Comcast some clout when negotiating with networks and developing partnerships though. Maybe some potential competition for rights to Sunday Ticket at some point.

And to answer yoshi_5, they have caps so it hinders your ability to go all streaming and cancel traditional tv. In their minds they're losing money from people steaming online. What they fail to see is that for all the people getting rid of cable tv, many more are signing up for cable internet. The same company that provides the cable tv also provides the internet. Their revenue is simply switching platforms. But they see it as revenue loss. |
