No, they're uncut and therefore extended.

So did Lovefilm air the episodes uncut then? (I know they cut/blurred them in Germany)

Thanks. So there is not 2 versions of the episodes on like there is for the US release. Here there is only one option and that is the episodes in extended form

I honestly don't know. The BBFC have only rated the uncut versions.

If you have any episodes and timings which feature the naughty bits very happy to check my Amazon Prime Instants. I already had the US BDs so did not bother.

A full comparison is available for every episode of the first season at Movie Censorship...

hopefully someone can confirm the UK release got the extended version with the help of this link.

Because from the press release it definitely seem like the UK release is a different release. On the backcover it just says "all 9 episodes is included" while the US says "9 extended and uncut episodes" so the info is a little confusing.

But if sky captain has the UK box set he could check it with that link. Everyone also thought the UK release of Hannibal had the extended episodes but it turned out that was not the case at all. So hopefully this is not the same incident here

Amazon Prime Instant Video says the first episode of season 2 is 48 minutes long, the History Channel version (as it appears on Hulu) is 44 minutes long. Therefore I would assume the UK is getting the extended versions straight away (and therefore there would be no need to flag them as "uncut and extended" on the blu-ray)...

There is a further complication though in that even if they are the uncut length, they could still be optically censored.

On Amazon Instants in France you saw full frontal nudity uncensored but on the German screenings they optically blurred the lower nudity. Will look on the UK Amazon Instants tonight. See link above.

As I said I have the US BDs so can't comment on what is on the UK release. I played safe and went for US as knew it would be uncensored.

Well, the IFCO have reviewed something called "Vikings - Season 1 - BD Disc 3: Episodes 07 to 09 Extended Versions & VAM", which suggests they are the extended versions.

Fox also only include the extended version of American Dad! on their DVD releases, whilst saying nothing about it on the packaging. So it's quite plausible the episode could be extended and say nothing on the packaging, even if the censored versions are what's broadcast.

It would be interesting to see some timings for the History Channel versions, maybe a comparison between those and the version submitted to the BBFC might reveal something...

American Dad! used to say Fully Exposed on the cover indicating that the extended cuts were included but I think it's just a given now that Family Guy, American Dad! and The Cleveland Show are uncensored on DVD.

Does anyone honestly think that the TV versions warrant an 18 certificate, (majority of episodes are actually 15 rated)?

No.

They aired on the History Channel and were neutered accordingly.

The NBC broadcast versions of Hannibal went to an 18. Every episode surprisingly. There's only one I'd have an issue with showing to a 15 year old, the one with the forced kidney removal, but it's quite restrained visually.

They're cable. American cable isn't regulated, they can literally get away with anything, most choose to self-censor to avoid upsetting advertisers...

And thus, the History Channel versions were censored...

Am I wrong?

Hannibal in no way, ressembles the differences between the broadcast and BD versions of The Vikings.

Go through those Movie Censorship comparisons and note every time it refers to the TV version having alternate footage.

Checked UK Amazon Instants and episode 1.05 has the full frontal nudity intact as shown on Movie Censorship.

It has a running time of 44m 08s whereas the BBFC quotes 42m 21s, but I presume that is the DVD time so after PAL speed up. The listing says uncut.

The Amazon one runs to 2542 seconds and the BBFC quotes 2541 seconds, there's a good chance they're identical.

This could be cleared up right away because if this shot of nudity from episode 9 is in the UK version then its definitely the extended episodes that is on the UK release as well
