I really wish Empire Records was out on blu-ray and out of all the great releases in 2014 if this was coming out it would quickly be the top of my list!

I'd like to see this on blu too.
It wasn't one of my favorites, but I liked it for what it was.

The problem is it earned so little (

less than a million

according to IMDB) I don't know if they would condider it worth the cost of re-releasing it on blu-ray.
Empire Records didn't seem to gain much traction until after it was released on home video and aired on cable, and even then it still didn't seem to generate much buzz beyond teens and young adults.
A lot of the actors were lesser known back then too, and weren't really at their peak, though they were definitely recognized as promising actors.

I'd probably justify owning this movie based on it providing some kind of fun, exaggerated historical account of the music retail industry just before the internet took over.
Shopping malls, arcades, video stores, and record stores. Those were the sanctuaries for kids in the 80s/90s.
