Thinking about getting this movie, but not sure which would be best in terms of the cleanliness of the film, which release has the better sound mix & I've read the 40th Anniversary release is missing "Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey", which many have said is great. So which would be the better buy:
2007 2013 |

2007 has VC-1 while 2013 has MPEG-4 AVC (which I have heard does hit really high in terms of allowing great A/V quality for the type of file it is). And my guess is they nixed the extra above to accommodate the size of the newer release.
Still, definitely worth asking an opinion on this to see if the extras balance the quality of the film between both versions. |

To be honest here, I don't understand the difference between VC-1 & MPEG-4.
I was able to find & download the "Bruce Lee: A Warriors Journey" extra. Thanks for the heads-up RalphoR. I did go through many of the posts that you linked to Tamburello Rouge. I just got a little more confused. What's the difference between 'a new transfer' & 'a remaster'? Also, some were talking about 'jaggies', 'aliasing' & 'lossless audio'. |

So who has the 40th Anniversary Blu-Ray & what do you think about it?
Sorry everyone, I don't work & w/the price being in the $30.00 range, I want to make sure it's worth it. Someone in the other post had mentioned 1973 & 1998 cuts. What's the difference(s) & which is the 40th Anniversary Blu-Ray? |

The problem with the 2007 disc isn't that it's encoded in VC-1; there are plenty of very good looking VC-1 Blu-rays. The 2007 Enter the Dragon transfer has very heavy, obvious aliasing (jagged, "stair-stepped" edges that look almost like pixellation), which I believe I read somewhere can likely be attributed to a poor conversion of an outdated 1080i master. The 2013 version isn't perfect (some of the colors are oversaturated) but it doesn't have the distracting jaggies and is much more natural and filmic-looking overall.
You can compare screenshots from the two versions here: https://www.caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d...68&i=0&l=1&a=0 Also note that the 2007 disc only has lossy Dolby Digital sound while the 2013 version has lossless DTS-HD MA. "Lossless" sound means that it theoretically sounds just as good as the original studio masters, as opposed to more heavily-compressed "lossy" formats. |
