I want to buy season 5 and 6 of Doctor Who on Blu-ray, but I noticed they are presented in 1080i, which makes me believe is much inferior from 1080p, right? Now iTunes Store have them on 1080p and iis selling them both for 20 dollars (120 dollars on blu ray).
What is better? Lossy 1080p or blu-ray 1080i? |

They're interlaced because they were shot at 1080p25 instead of the norm in the US of 1080p24. 1080p25 isn't compatable with the Blu-ray spec and US TVs can't handle 1080i50 (as they are on the region B BDs; though some US players are able to convert them), so they're presented at 1080i60. I have the discs and they look great to me.

Doctor Who has never been filmed in 1080i-it has been 1080p25 all the way.
