Default Question about Warner Bros. & Support for 2 Formats

I just left the Warner site looking at their HD movies that were on sale and I noticed that there were several movies that were HD-DUD only. If Warner is neutral, for now anyways, what's the deal? They offer at least 18 titles on HD-DUD, and only Rush Hour 3 is Blu-ray only. Here is what I found that is just on HD-DUD:

The Adventures of Robin Hood
Batman Begins
Caddyshack 20th Anniversary
Casablanca SE
Charlie & the Chocolate Factory
Matrix Trilogy
Constantine
Dukes of Hazzard
Excalibur
Forbidden Planet
Grand Prix
Mutiny on the Bounty
No Reservations
The Perfect Storm
Phatom of the Opera
Poseidon
V for Vendetta
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory

If anyone knows a good reply on this, please post. There are about 4 or 5 titles out of that bunch that I would like on Blu-ray. Again, if Warner is neutral, why not release these on Blu-ray as well?

Hopefully we will get some announcements from them come CES. I am hoping that they announce at least Batman Begins, The Matrix, V For Vendetta & Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. Warner needs to wake up and announce that they will becoming Blu-Ray exclusive.

I am sure alot of those titles will be announced at CES. However some of the older titles may never get released on BD due to very poor sales on HD-DVD. This was stated by a BD insider. This is a great pity.

"No Reservations" was announced for Blu for 2/12, but I don't see strong sales on either format.

Why would some not be released because of bad sales of hd dvd when its on both blu wastes the hd dvd version?

I think WB view the poor sales of old movies on hi-def to be an indication that newer movies are more likely to sell well. I really don't know. But its a farce that they are using HD-DVD sales as an indication of how well something might sell on BD.

I would assume that they were originally waiting for profile 1.1 to finally hit the market. There have been countless threads on this already. Initially it was the lack of a standard profile. They claimed that they wanted to be able to put in all of the special features that the DUD version currently supported. Now that we have the profile... LETS GET SOME RELEASES WARNER!!!! WE HAVE THE PROFILE!

Forbidden Planet needs to come out on BD... It's a classic of the Sci-Fi genre and highly influential. No Sci-Fi collection could possibly be complete without it.

It would allow me to rid myself of my shameful copy .

Well they cannot use is as an excuse anymore. If they do not announce at least the Matrix at CES it will leave a bad taste in the mouth. I understand the arguement about Batman Begins and the promotion of the new film but there will be no excuse on the Matrix or the other newer titles for that matter.

Regardless of whether they announce exclusivity at CES the announcements of the above titles are huge IMO for BD.

In the very begining, WB was HD DVD exclusive and had released those titles and then they decided to go format neutral and they just haven't put these out on Blu-ray. Recently an announcement was made by WB that all titles that were released on HD DVD will be released on Blu-ray...so hopefully soon we'll get some of these..(i.e. Batman Begins, Willy Wonka, The Matrix Trilogy, and Forbbidden Planet. My personal must haves.)

Ah, so THOSE are the missing titles - I would pick up Batman Begins and V for Vendetta - those are the only ones I would pick up in a heartbeat.

I big portion of these will be announced by Warner at the beginning of next year I am sure. I cannot even begin to imagine how many copies of Batman Begins would sell when it's released.

Also, to the OP, the Phantom of the Opera is available on Blu-ray as well.

Default Titles For Me

First, thanks for the information on what happened! I do hope that Warner will release these titles.

I will get:

CaddyShack
Constantine
Batman Begins
Adv. of Robin Hood
Forbidden Planet ( The Star Wars of the 50's, Disney studios did the special effects!)

Come on Warner! Give up on HD-DUD and we will show you what real sales on Blu-ray will be!

Mention WB and expect a ban. I mentioned a concern about the inordinate number of replacement issues and was banned. Sucks. Censorship lives on this site.
