Default Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris - Special Edition Announced Coming December 9th

Rise of the Tomb Raider isn’t the only new game starring Lara Croft, as Crystal Dynamics has announced Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, which is a new game coming to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Built from the ground up for the new consoles, Temple of Osiris features up to 4 player co-op (playable characters include Lara, 2 Egyptian Gods, and a new character), with a release date just revealed as “coming soon."

I loved Guardian of Light. This should be good. Is it also by the same people that did the other one?

EDIT: yes, it is!

Crystal Dynamics is releasing a sequel to its isometric action-adventure game, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light (pictured above), called Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, Square Enix announced today

The game does not yet have a price or release date, but is "coming soon." Unlike the previous game, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris will offer four-player co-op. The game takes place in Egypt and has been built "from the ground up" for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.

Lara, a rival archaeologist named Carter, and Osiris' wife and son, Horus and Isis, will be playable characters. Although players will get better loot playing with friends, the game also offers solo play.

"After the immensely positive reception we received for our debut co-op adventure Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, we always hoped that we would find the time for Lara to return in another classic AAA digital arcade title," head of product development and Western studios Darrell Gallagher said in a press statement. "We are excited to expand upon Guardian of Light's legacy with an entirely new adventure, and challenged ourselves to create fun new ways to play. Four-player co-op in Lara's world combined with Crystal Dynamics' high production values are being brought to a new generation of platforms and we are excited for more friends to share in the adventure together."

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light was released in 2010. Unlike previous Tomb Raider titles, it included a heavy focus on multiplayer gameplay, giving players the option to control either Lara or Totec, a Mayan tribesman. The game, which is available as a downloadable title only, is not considered part of the core Tomb Raider franchise.

Domain registrations for two projects, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris and Rise of the Tomb Raider recently appeared online. Crystal Dynamics revealed last August that it was "well into development" on a next-gen sequel to its franchise reboot, Tomb Raider. A comic series announced last July will lead directly into the game's story.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris Detailed

Quote:
The story takes place in the forsaken Temple of Osiris, long hidden, deep in the deserts of Egypt. Lara Croft arrives at the mysterious temple, only to discover her new rival, Carter Bell, is also seeking the legendary Staff of Osiris – an instrument of power over life and death. When Carter removes the mythical Staff from its resting place he triggers a trap that curses them both and unleashes the evil god Set, brother to Osiris, and usurper of his kingdom. However, the reclaimed staff also awakens the gods Horus and Isis, the son and wife of Osiris. Free from their ancient prison, these gods offer to repay Lara and Carter by joining forces in order to remove their curse and stop Set. You’ll play as Lara, Carter, Isis, or Horus as you fight your way across lethal sands and through deadly tombs battling to resurrect Osiris and fulfill his prophecy by defeating Set.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris features everything you loved about Guardian of Light, including the fast paced action, isometric and cinematic camera, dangerous puzzles, deep tomb exploration, lethal traps, and more. Then, leveraging our next-gen engine and the power of the PlayStation 4, we deliver truly stunning environments and visual effects as well as four-player co-op action. You can see the incredible attention to detail and the passion the Crystal team pours into every facet, effect, and texture – pushing the art of digital games. The team here is working tirelessly to deliver that AAA experience in a classic arcade Croft title.

Highly doubtful. It's a smaller digital release, like the last PSN Tomb Raider game. Get ready to not be interested.

Why, did you not play the first one? It was a fairly short game.

You're probably right, but the disc release of Trials Fusion gave me a little bit of hope that a few previously download-only series may come out on disc.

What does the length of the game have to do with anything? Everything should get a disc release for the reason stated in my signature.

There wouldn't be enough shelf space in stores to put the amount of games that are made, simple

I'm not saying that wouldn't be cool, but not every game needs to be put on disc. If I had a physical copy for every digital game I have, my house would be filled with boxes. Guess I could always rent a storage container for my driveway.

Why would everything have to be sold in stores? Many games could be sold exclusively through online retailers (but still on disc). The production cost of a disc is very low and if they put them in smaller cases they wouldn't take up a lot of space in warehouses.

You could easily use binders to store thousands of discs in a very small space.

Even if they offer a downloadable version (which I'm still against), if they at least make some copies on disc that at least ensures that the game will be still be available long after the downloads have been taken down. They could easily make more bundles of many games on a single disc as well, for that matter with this game they could easily include it on the same disc as Rise of the Tomb Raider when that is released.

Obviously none of your arguments are the reason why companies are focused on downloads when they are perfectly fine with releasing something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Far-Cry-Compli...dp/B00HNYWFMC/. They made brand new discs and cases with Far Cry 2 & 3 on a single disc, but only included Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon as a download code. This ensures that they retain full control and eliminate the used market... the primary reason why companies like downloads.

Collectors Edition is PS4/PC Exclusive

Quote:
Square Enix has revealed the Collector's Edition of Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, along with details about the game's Season Pass.

The limited Gold Edition of the game comes with a 3-inch Lara figurine, an artbook filled with exclusive concept art, a folding map of the Overworld and the Season Pass. The Gold Edition will only be available for the PS4 and PC versions of the game, with Xbox One owners missing out.

As for what's in the Season Pass, it includes all future DLC including Icy Death and Twisted Gears Pack. the upcoming DLC packs provide six additional costumes along with new tombs, unique rings, amulets and weapons. It's currently unclear if the Season Pass will also be available on Xbox One, but we're reaching out to Square to confirm.

A number of retailer exclusive pre-order packs have also been announced. The Hitman Pack can be obtained from Steam and other digital retailers, and offers Hitman skins including Silverballs and The Agent ring, which offers increased weapon damage and stronger bombs. Amazon offers the Deus Ex pack which grants you access to Adam Jensen's combat rifle and the Augment ring, which reduces the cost of treasure chests by 10 percent. Lastly, the Lara Croft Legend pack from GameStop gives you nostalgic Tomb Raider skins, a golden pistol, and The Legend ring which offers health regeneration and a more powerful torch.

Announced back at E3, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris will come out later this year, with Rise of the Tomb Raider slated for 2015. For more on the dungeon crawler, be sure to check out IGN's preview from E3.

It's been announced for XB1 as well in the US, but it's just a download code on all systems.
It is therefore taking up space in store shelves, but it's still not a physical release.

Yeah looks like its region specific they have updated the story

Update: Square Enix has confirmed the Gold Edition will be made available for Xbox One in North America, alongside the PS4 and the PC editions. In the UK it seems that only PS4 and PC owners will have access to the collector's edition, however.

We apologise for any confusion as a result of the original story.

It is showing up as released on the ps store though it can't be bought yet (same thing happened with minecraft last week and it took until the end of the day for it to be purchasable).

It's probably just me, but here's what I'd like to say to Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics:

Go get bent.

Yep. I'm gonna pick this up from a third party seller on a forum or ebay or something.
