Well the last one would be good room. Since how many of us will ever get to build our own HT room? I would have to go with receiver as well and for one big reason. You can buy the best speakers around but if you have junk to power them it does not matter.

well with that said, I'd build the ht room. The receiver & speakers would only be about 1k w/ a goo onkyo system but a room is so much more. so I go with the room!!!

Well, to be honest you really need all of the above to have an ideal home theater setup, but most people don't have a room that's perfect in every sense (speaker placement, right acoustics). But, you can still get good equipment to get the best out of your viewing/listening environment. One thing to note though, a good receiver requires a good set of speakers. One is only as good as the other it's paired with.

The most important is the room acoustic. It doesn't matter if you have the most expensive speakers or audio components but if you don't have a good room, you won't get to enjoy the full potential of your equipments.

hawknelson05, imagine if all those 3 factors cost exactly the same. Reason i said that because i think you only picked the room because u thought it is have the most expensive cost.
