AnimeNewsNetwork originally said it was also coming out in Feb., but it seems like there was a delay. RightStuf has the release date listed as Apr 28 2015

Quote:
Long ago, there existed an evil spirit that waged a war to conquer the human world. Defeat drove him back to the realm of darkness, but not before vowing to return and exact his revenge. A thousand years later, the world has all but forgotten the name of Arago, Emperor of Doom. When black clouds smother the bright city lights of Shinjuku, and a sinister laugh drowns out the dying hum of electricity, the people of the world plunge into terror, unprepared for the evil spirit's return! An ancient fortress of stone appears over the modern glass buildings of the city, and as the armies of the human world launch an attack, their own weapons turn against them, rendering them useless.

In the face of this overwhelming power, hope is nowhere to be found. But not everything is lost! As despair grips the city, five young men emerge, wearing mystical armor said to grant strength enough to defeat Arago once and for all! But despite the might of their armor, Ryo of the Wildfire, Toma of the Heavens, Shu of the Stone, Shin of the Torrent, and Seiji of the Nimbus will have to join together and learn to work as a team if they are to have any chance of defeating the armies of the Empire of Doom, including the Four Warlords, who possess mystical armor of their own!

Contains episodes 1-39.

I think they said the Ronin Warriors version is different because there are certain cuts that warrant a separate release. Is this correct?

I remember watching the first few episodes of this, but I just couldn't get into it. Then again it was on VHS, in Japanese, without subtitles, complete with commercials.

To be fair though, Bandai did do a binlingual release several years ago.

I'll wait for the Ronin Warriors version as I want the cheesy dub for my nostalgia.

Just to remind people, these are just the OVAs, not the Samurai Troopers TV show. That pre-order is coming later. Both the TV series are OVAs are being released in Feburary.

Did it include a translated script printout?

Yeah I know these are the OVAs, which were dubbed uncut years later as a part of Ronin Warriors. I just wish the set was called Ronin Warriors for less confusion. Pretty sure it's far more known over here by that name.

Yup, but the DVDs are out-of-print, and difficult to track down. They only did singles too IIRC, no boxset.

I'm sorry.

I hate the dub. I edited things out. Not to mention the voice cast of episode 2 was completely different from the rest of show.

My bad I was talking about the tv series. The OVA's I only ever saw sub so I have no opinion on the dubs.

Of course things were edited out. It was the 90s and it was being dubbed for syndication, where standards-and-practices must be followed. Dubbing anime TV shows uncut was not common practice back then, unless it was Ranma 1/2. It's a product of it's time and things were just done differently back then. For the time, Ronin Warriors actually had one of the more accurate and least-edited dubs. If it was done now, yeah it would be unacceptable (now that there are ways to release it unedited). The only major changes made were to the names, which were still Japanese, but easier to remember (like changing Nasti Yagyu to Mia Koji). Again, now such changes would be more unacceptable, but I do commend the localization for keeping the Japanese setting, which was very unusual for the time.

And only a couple voices were different for Ep. 2 (and some other episodes) because of the break-neck pace Ocean had to record the show for Graz Ent. It's not like they wanted to substitute the voices, but they had no choice because the actors were unavailable (by legend, they were ill), and the episodes needed to be done. It's the same reason the old Ninja Turtles cartoon had random voices substituted here and there (Raphael, Donatello, Shredder), as well as Record of Lodoss War. It's not a reason to scrutinize the entire production.

It wasn't perfect of course, but when keeping in mind the time period and what else we got, it's one of the better anime dubs from the early-mid 90s.

I am talking about the TV show too. For some reason, episode 2 had a different voice cast from episodes 1 and 3+. The girl and the boy, specifically.

Interesting, can't say I ever noticed. It is a long series so they all start to blend together. Plus, it's been a long time since I actually watch it.

Same for me. I haven't watched it since it was on Toonami back in 2002.

Wait a minute... OVA series? I did not even know there was an OVA series. What is this about? Is it after the TV series?

The second OVA is a classic in my opinion. The enemy has a giant boomerang, instant win for me.

Is this any different from the OVA included in the Ronin Warriors Complete Collection the one with book 1 and 2.
