Default Dead Man (1995) - August 9, 2011

Dead Man Blu-ray

Dead Man Blu-ray Review

From Echo Bridge.

At least the aspect ratio and audio track shouldn't be an issue (all the DVD releases had 2.0 audio tracks).

Hopefully Echo Bridge has access to a respectable master and manages to carry over the available extras for once. Deleted Scenes (3:28), Outtakes (14:53), "Dead Man Theme" music video (2:40) and Theatrical Trailer (1:55).

Cool. One of the few dvd's I held on to. Didn't think it would come to bluray this soon.

I haven't seen any echo bridge discs but after the from dusk till dawn debacle, they appear to be the US equivalent to alliance. I am hoping for a solid transfer. Johnny depp is the only reason they're rolling this out I bet. I love this movie in a ridiculous way. Cautiously excited.

One of my favorite movies. Why the heck does it have to be put out by the clowns at Echo Bridge?

I love the film, and picked up the echo bridge dvd a few weeks ago. It is not even "enhanced for 16/9 widescreen tv's" as when you play it on a widescreen TV you get a letterboxed 4 by 3 image. (the film has effectively been massively windowboxed with black bars on all four sides and a smaller image in the center) I am not sure that I have described the technology accurately but you should get the idea.

It seems that Echo Bridge is into releasing the cheapest video presentations humanly possible, let's hope they treat this masterpiece with some respect.

That's not a fair comparison. Alliance has put out several respectable titles, while Echo Bridge hasn't put out any. EB is a freakin' joke.

I have the French import that unfortunately has forced subtitles on the English track. I wouldn't mind an upgrade without forced subtitles but I'm not confident of EB. We need a great audio track to experience Neil Young's sublime guitar score.

The Australian release has a nice transfer and all the special features. Lossless audio too I think

If region locking isn't an issue for you then I highly recommend the Australian release. I've just done a full review of the title: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Dead-...8/#UserReviews

Some screenshots available in the official thread: https://forum.blu-ray.com/australia/...ml#post4871467

It may not be absolutely perfect but given Echo Bridge's track record it may be a very worthwhile purchase assuming you can play B locked content. I'd say it'd be very unlikely the US release fares better than ours and possibly a very good chance it might fare far worse taking into account Echo Bridge's release history.

JB appears to be the cheapest at the moment if you're considering importing: http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/dvd/d...-bluray/533524

atexp80 nice review. Do you recollect the image quality during the trapper scene (w/ Iggy, Billy Bob, and Jared)? This scene on the U.S. dvd looked horrid, with smearing (my technical term) of the image, and I believe the audio wasn't quite synched right.

While I would like to have faith in Echo Bridge's release, I have a feeling they will push me over the edge to get a region free player.

Absolutely no problems at all. Naturally being such a dark scene it's not brimming with super-fine detail but it still looks great. I'm afraid I don't have our local DVD any more to do a comparison but I agree that I recollect it being very mushy with a lack of definition.

I took a screenshot for you. As you can see - plenty of detail down to the texture on the animal skins hanging behind Sally.

Thanks for the screenshot.

Great...this film is at the top of my want list...and I am completely unsure what to do. I guess it is time to research region free players.

I've petitioned the Criterion Collection for years to release this one in the U.S. They have most of his others out?!? Maybe they will come to the rescue?

Found this at Best Buy today for $7.99.

The disc is 1080p. The PQ has a huge amount of noise, but it looks fair. Audio is DTS-HD 2 channel. It also has some bonus features, which I didn't expect - some deleted scenes and a music video.

Overall, it's one of the better Echo Bridge releases I've seen, but not great. It's worth the 8 bucks.

Well, it doesn't sound like a total debacle, but I'm still hesitant to give Echo Bridge any money.

I know Criterion managed to get the rights to the Three Colors Trilogy, instead of Lionsgate or Echo Bridge, and they've released 4 of Jarmusch's films already, so I'll keep hoping I'll see them release it eventually...

@ DrAndonuts. Thanks for the specs.

Does it contain both the Deleted Scenes (3:28) that were present on the 2003 DVD and the Outtakes (14:53) or just the deleted scenes?

They had it in-store already?
