I agree this is some awesome news! I think blu-ray stands a heck of a fighting chance with the PS3 on its side!

I will definitely agree with this because the last few days I went shopping, I have never seen so many people buying PS3's compared to the other systems.

Very different story from where I went. I was shocked to see that the Wii was sold out within 30 min of GameStop opening on Black Friday. Every person in line before me was walking out with one. Nobody purchased any PS3 stuff. I was dissapointed. I bought the PS Eye. I live in Los Angeles County.

I would like to see actual numbers that show the 200%+ growth over the timeframe. Not that I doubt the article, I just always like having some type of number.

It doesn't bother me to see people buy the Wii, as it is truly a gaming-only console (no HD DVD add-on). Heck, if I found one cheap enough, I'd buy me a Wii. But from anecdotal evidence, it sounds like the "serious" purchases of the PS3 were at BB and CC. When I picked up Rock Band at GameStop, I asked for the PS3 version and the guy behind the counter said with a smile, "Is there any other gaming platform?"

It strikes me as a little silly that Sony can claim 245% increase, but can't quote numbers. Um ... can't they do the math? If they know the percentage, then they must also know the numberss.

I believe that this entire industry seems extremely shy about providing actual numbers on a consistent basis. Even when Paramount did provide numbers, they weren't accurate or were obviously fudged.

I, like you, would wish for hard numbers on a consistent basis. I wish Nielson's were actual sales numbers, not just percentages.

And then we don't really know which numbers they're talking about. Actual sold units versus shipped units.

The PS3 sales jump is well deserved. Sony really worked this year to get the console up to spec with the addition of dual-shock and software updates. In-game access to XMB is the last thing left.

The Wii will outsell the PS3. However, the PS3 is killing the 360 in my area. I was shopping around for a Wii (gift to my aged parents), and it seemed that PS3s were flying off the shelf. That said, every single location in my region, about a million people, were sold out of Wii consoles. One box store sold a dozen Wii consoles within minutes off unloading from the truck.

This season will be just another nail in the coffin for the 360.

I helped out a little. I bought a 80gb PS3, 3 PS3 games, 4 Blu-ray discs, hd cables. I love my PS3 more than I ever loved my three 360s.

32" lcd VIZIO 720p/1080i
80gb PS3/ Blu-ray player
3 PS3 games
4 Blu-ray discs / soon to own 10 more
250+ DVDs most horror

my local sears just received a new shipment of 360's and PS3's...

well, I shouldn't have pluralized 360 as they only got one in yesterday and they received 10 PS3's....

this is a lot for a store like that in regards to gaming...

Lets see for the secret walmart sale, I got one of 10 80GB ps3's they had. They sold out as well. So imagine nationwide 80GB current inventory plus special inventory at walmarts selling out on Friday and Saturday

A few people I know are talking about getting the PS3 now with the price drop. One friend of mine already did.

I am hoping that the PS3 starts to gain some momentum now.

I have a guy I work with who said he would NEVER get a PS3, and when he heard about the K-Mart 20% off deal, he went out and bought it on his lunch.

The Wal Mart I work at was selling the 80 gig's like crazy with the sale going on. It lasted 3 days and by Monday there were hardly any BD's left.
